Location: Wooburn Green, Buckinghamshire. 5 days per week expected in the office through probation (3 months), reducing to 3 days per week thereafter.

Work Pattern: Full time. Mon-Fri – 09:00am – 05:30pm.

Role Purpose: The Payroll, Compensation & Benefits Specialist (HR Business Partner) is accountable for end‑to‑end payroll delivery, reward frameworks, and benefits across the business, including newly acquired entities. This role leads the transition to in‑house payroll, ensuring accuracy, compliance, scalability, and a positive employee experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Payroll Ownership & Delivery: Own and deliver accurate, compliant, and timely payroll for the entire business, including acquired companies. Act as the primary payroll lead, working closely with Finance to ensure controls, reconciliations, and reporting are robust. Ensure payroll processes comply with UK legislation, HMRC requirements, pensions, statutory payments, and tax obligations. Manage payroll risk, audits, and issue resolution, taking ownership through to closure.
  • In‑House Payroll Implementation: Lead the design, implementation, and transition to an in‑house payroll model. Define payroll processes, controls, governance, and documentation. Partner with Finance, IT, and external providers to ensure system readiness, data integrity, and smooth cutover. Deliver payroll harmonisation where required following acquisitions. Ensure knowledge transfer, training, and sustainability post‑implementation. Manage and evolve the organisation’s compensation and benefits framework, ensuring competitiveness and fairness. Support annual pay review processes, benchmarking, and reward analysis. Maintain benefits administration and vendor relationships. Ensure reward structures are clearly documented, consistently applied, and aligned to business strategy.
  • HR Business Partnering: Partner with senior leaders to provide commercial, data‑driven insight on pay, benefits, and workforce cost. Advise on reward implications of organisational change, growth, and acquisitions. Act as a trusted advisor on payroll, reward, and compliance matters. Maintain accurate reward and payroll data to support reporting, budgeting, and forecasting. Drive continuous improvement in payroll efficiency, accuracy, and employee experience. Monitor legislative changes and assess impact on payroll, compensation, and benefits.

Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in a Compensation & Benefits or Payroll‑focused HRBP / HR Manager role.
  • Strong end‑to‑end payroll management experience, including statutory compliance.
  • Experience leading or significantly contributing to in‑house payroll implementation.
  • Solid knowledge of UK payroll, pensions, and employment legislation.
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and partner effectively with Finance.
  • Experience supporting acquisitions, TUPE, or payroll harmonisation.
  • CIPD Level 5 or equivalent.
  • Experience with payroll systems implementation or transformation.
