As a Senior Product Manager, you will be responsible for owning and shaping one of our ground-breaking, new digital products. In this role, you will be expected to use your knowledge of user needs, business goals and agile delivery to frame problems, set priorities for your teams and ultimately deliver world-class digital services.
As a Senior Product Manager at the Intellectual Property Office (IPO), you will join an established product team and collaborate with a supportive community of Product Managers to deliver world class digital services. Reporting to a Lead Product Manager, you will be responsible for leading an agile delivery team, ensuring that your digital products meet their business goals and effectively meet internal and external user needs.
You will understand and represent the voice of the user and collaborate with stakeholders, building strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels, to identify opportunities for improving business outcomes and enhancing benefits. Continuously improving the quality, capability and efficiency of your product.
You will be responsible for creating, maintaining and delivering against a product roadmap that is aligned to organisational strategy and user needs. You will create, prioritise and maintain a product backlog of needs, to direct the work of a multi-disciplinary product team using Agile methodologies.
Main duties consist of but are not limited to:
- Lead the production of a product vision, product roadmaps and lifecycle plans for the delivery and continuous improvement of your product right through the product lifecycle.
- Lead the prioritisation process for the work that needs to be done by the product teams, creating and maintaining a product backlog which balances immediate user needs with the longer term continuous improvement and maintenance in line with organisational goals.
- Advocate for user centred design and collaborate with user researchers and performance analysts to plan research activities and make effective use of available data to understand your users and their needs.
- Engage with senior stakeholders to understand business goals and translate these into measurable performance indicators and product delivery milestones.
- Lead teams to define, design and deliver on the vision and realise value for your users.
- Collaborate with specialists within multidisciplinary teams and wider, to articulate clear requirements in the form of test-driven user stories.
- Mentor colleagues where appropriate.
- Be responsible for ensuring the development work delivers on your prioritised outcomes and ensure the overall quality of the product is in line with relevant standards.
- Be the key point of contact for the team, effectively collaborating with others across the wider product areas.
- Line manage product managers and support their professional development.
- Work with Heads of Profession and your team’s delivery manager to build and maintain an efficient, high-performance team, that supports the development of the individual and the IPO's capability needs.
Essential criteria:
- Experienced in managing products through all stages of the product lifecycle.
- Experienced in investigating patterns and trends to identify and resolve problems.
- Experienced in a range of Agile methodologies and practices and leading multidisciplinary agile teams.
- Experienced in using a variety of communication methods and is able to apply the appropriate method to each scenario and audience.
- Strong decision-making abilities, utilising a range of qualitative and quantitative data.
- Experienced in promoting the needs of the team and of the product.
- Understanding how these may vary between different phases of the product lifecycle.
This role will be carried out in-line with IPO Hybrid working arrangements where staff are currently expected to spend at least 20% of their time working onsite from one of our offices. This role is based in our Newport Office.
