My client is seeking a Principal Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) Engineer in the UK to work on the design and development of next-generation high-speed photonic ICs for advanced optical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture and design of high-speed PICs for optical communications and sensing
  • Develop and optimise photonic devices (e.g., modulators, detectors, waveguides) for high-bandwidth operation
  • Perform modelling, simulation, and layout of integrated photonic circuits
  • Work closely with electronics, packaging, and systems teams to deliver integrated solutions
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor engineers within the photonics team

Requirements

  • PhD or MSc in Photonics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Significant experience designing photonic integrated circuits
  • Strong understanding of high-speed optical device physics and photonic design tools
  • Track record of delivering complex engineering projects

Desirable

  • Experience with silicon photonics or heterogeneous integration platforms
  • Knowledge of high-speed optical transceivers or coherent communication systems
