We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join at a pivotal moment. This role is ideal for someone operating at a strong mid-to-senior level who wants real ownership, influence over technical direction, and a clear path into leadership. There is genuine potential to progress into a Head of Technology role based on performance.
You’ll work closely with product leadership and be supported by a Fractional CTO, playing a key role in building, scaling, and evolving the platform, with a strong focus on AI and LLM-driven features.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Designing, building, and deploying high-quality features for a customer-facing web platform
- Developing and shipping AI and LLM-powered functionality
- Managing third-party integrations including payments, email, SMS, suppliers, and partner APIs
- Collaborating with product and leadership to design scalable and reliable systems
- Participating in code reviews and raising engineering standards
- Proactively identifying opportunities to improve performance, reliability, and security
- Mentoring and supporting a junior developer through guidance and pair programming

About You
This role is a great fit if you enjoy early-stage environments where your decisions have real impact and you want to grow into a technical leadership role.
You must have:
- 3–5 years of professional software development experience
- Strong experience building and maintaining web applications using Python and Django
- Hands-on experience integrating large language models via APIs such as OpenAI or Anthropic
- Experience with relational database design, optimisation, and performance
- Practical experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar databases
- Experience deploying applications on cloud platforms, ideally Heroku and AWS
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills
- An interest in mentoring junior developers
- Be based in London and able to work hybrid, minimum three days per week in South London
- Legal right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available)
Nice to have:
- Deeper AI or ML engineering experience, including deploying models into production
- Broader front-end experience or familiarity with modern frameworks such as React, HTMX, or TailwindCSS
