Data Engineer | London Hybrid | £70,000–£100,000 + 30–40% Bonus
I'm currently working with a well-established and growing business in the insurance market that is looking to hire a Data Engineer into its London team.
This is a strong opportunity for a Data Engineer with 3+ years of experience who enjoys working at the core of a business's data estate — particularly where there is a need to modernise legacy SQL Server / on-prem data environments into a more scalable Azure-based platform.
The role will suit someone who is confident across Azure data engineering, pipeline development, data modelling and stakeholder engagement, and who wants to play a hands-on role in shaping a more modern data infrastructure. There is also the opportunity to support broader AI and LLM-related initiatives over time.
The role
You will play a key role in helping to evolve and modernise the business's data environment, with a particular focus on moving away from more traditional / legacy data processes into a more robust, scalable and cloud-based architecture.
This role will involve:
- Designing, building and optimising scalable ETL / ELT pipelines
- Helping modernise and migrate traditional SQL Server / on-prem data processes into Azure
- Working across Azure Data Factory, Synapse / Fabric, Azure SQL / data lake environments
- Building and improving data models to support reporting, analytics and business decision-making
- Improving data quality, validation, monitoring and overall reliability of core datasets
- Supporting integration work across internal systems, third-party platforms and APIs
- Working closely with business stakeholders to translate operational requirements into scalable technical solutions
- Contributing to reporting and dashboard capability through tools such as Power BI
- Supporting current and future AI / LLM-related projects where relevant
What they're looking for
- 3+ years' experience in Data Engineering or a closely related role
- Strong hands-on experience with SQL and Python
- Experience building and maintaining production-grade data pipelines
- Strong exposure to Azure data services, ideally including tools such as Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Fabric, Azure SQL or Azure Data Lake
- Experience working on or supporting the modernisation of legacy / on-prem / SQL Server-based data environments
- Good understanding of ETL / ELT, data modelling, data warehousing and reporting workflows
- Experience with Power BI, modern data tooling and version control / CI/CD
- Someone comfortable working with non-technical stakeholders and gathering requirements from the business
- Insurance, London Market or insurance broking data experience would be beneficial, but is not essential
- Interest in emerging AI / LLM / AI-assisted tooling is a bonus
Package
- £70,000–£100,000 base salary
- 30–40% bonus
- Hybrid working
- 33 days holiday, plus the option to buy 5 additional days
- Excellent pension, double matched by the company up to 10%
This is a genuinely strong opportunity for a Data Engineer who wants:
- real ownership across data platform modernisation
- the chance to work on Azure-based transformation work
- exposure to a complex, business-critical data environment
- a strong overall package and benefits offering
- involvement in both current data engineering priorities and future AI initiatives
