This role owns the Workday platform for a complex enterprise environment and requires a true Workday SME across Core HCM and Talent, ensuring the system is correctly designed, configured, integrated and optimised to support business outcomes.
The ideal candidate's WorkDay module coverage will include:
- Talent & Recruiting
- Core
- Time & Pay
Integration & Connectors including Workday-Native, Ecosystem & Tooling. This role requires a true Workday authority as opposed to a short term configurator-for-hire.
THE ROLE:
- In-house Workday SME for Core HCM and foundations (org structures, job architecture, hierarchies, BPs).
- Lead configuration across business processes (hire → change → terminate and associated workflows).
- Own and improve Workday Security: roles, approvals, domain access, BP security, and governance standards.
- Provide foresight on platform impacts: what will break, what will scale, and where downstream impacts will land.
- Support legacy HR decommissioning and migration touchpoints; manage change with minimal operational disruption.
- Enable launch of additional modules post-Core HCM (nice-to-have exposure across Absence/Time, Compensation, Talent, Recruiting, etc.).
- Drive controlled delivery: requirements workshops, challenge assumptions, produce rational options, implement clean solutions.
- Create a Workday workstream within the team: standards, documentation, training, and repeatable ways of working.
- Coach and upskill analysts to reduce dependency on external partners and improve time-to-change.
MUST HAVE
- Strong Workday foundations + Core HCM capability
- Strong understanding of Workday Security and how it links to business processes and approvals
- Confident engaging stakeholders, asking the right questions, and challenging requirements with credibility
- Able to transfer knowledge and uplift internal capability
NICE TO HAVE
- ~7+ years in Workday environments (flexible if depth is clear)
- In-house Workday team experience (preferred)
- Experience with legacy HR decommissioning / migrations to Workday
- Exposure to multiple modules beyond Core HCM (2+ desirable): Absence/Time, Compensation, Talent, Recruiting, Learning, etc.
