We are seeking an experienced Pipework Design Engineer to join our engineering team, working full-time on one of our key client sites in Darlington.
The successful candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality pipework designs to support a range of industrial engineering projects.
Working closely with the client, project managers and multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will develop practical, compliant and cost-effective piping solutions from concept through to installation.

Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed pipework designs for industrial and process plant projects.
- Develop piping layouts, isometric drawings, general arrangement (GA) drawings and fabrication details using 2D and 3D CAD software.
- Design pipework systems in accordance with project specifications, relevant British Standards and industry best practice.
- Carry out pipe routing studies to ensure safe, practical and efficient installation and maintenance access.
- Prepare material specifications, bills of materials and technical documentation.
- Work closely with mechanical, electrical, process and project engineers to coordinate multidisciplinary designs.
- Attend design reviews, client meetings and site walkdowns to gather information and resolve technical queries.
- Support construction and installation teams by providing technical advice throughout project delivery, and review existing plant layouts and develop modification designs where required.
- Ensure designs consider constructability, operability, maintainability and health and safety requirements.
- Respond promptly to client requests and support project delivery within agreed timescales.
- Maintain accurate engineering records and ensure all documentation is controlled in accordance with company and client procedures.

- We are looking for someone with the following experience and qualifications:
Essential
- HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Previous experience in pipework or piping design within an industrial or process engineering environment.
- Proficient in Auto CAD and/or 3D design software such as Autodesk, Inventor, Solid Works, or similar.
- Good understanding of piping layouts, fabrication and installation practices.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively alongside clients and multidisciplinary teams.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Experience working within the chemical, pharmaceutical, food & beverage, utilities, energy or manufacturing sectors.
- Knowledge of pressure systems and relevant design standards.
- Familiarity with piping codes.
- Experience conducting site surveys and laser scan reviews.
- Understanding of pipe stress considerations and support design.
- Experience working within a client-facing or resident engineering role.
- Working Hours
- Full time – 37.5 hours per week, with overtime available, Mon-Thrs (08:00-16:30) & Fri (08:00-13:30)
- This role is primarily based on a client site in Darlington, with occasional travel to other company or client locations if required.
