Intelance is a specialist consultancy in Enterprise Architecture, Cybersecurity, and AI. We are building a lean, senior team to stand up a new Enterprise Architecture function for a major engineering and project-delivery group in North Africa. We are looking for an experienced Security Architect to define security architecture standards and controls, embed them into EA governance, and support key projects with pragmatic, risk-aware designs.
Tasks
- Work with Enterprise, Solution, Data and Integration Architects to define the client’s security architecture baseline across key domains (identity, access, network, application, data, logging, monitoring).
- Review current security posture for key systems and integrations and identify gaps and risks relevant to EA decisions.
- Define security architecture principles, patterns, and controls to be applied at each design stage (HLA, HLD) and at the Architecture Review Board (ARB).
- Create and maintain security checklists, design templates, and decision logs used in the EA workflow.
- Provide security input into 1-2 pilot projects going end-to-end through the new EA governance process, including review of HLA/HLDs.
- Ensure that designs address key non-functional requirements (authentication, authorisation, encryption, logging, monitoring, resilience).
- Collaborate with the GRC team to ensure EA governance supports relevant standards and frameworks (e.g. ISO 27001, NIST, CIS Controls).
- Advise on priorities for security improvement in the application and integration landscape, and help shape a realistic security roadmap.
- Contribute clear, versioned security artefacts into the EA repository (policies, patterns, reference diagrams).
- Explain security implications to non-security stakeholders in a clear, practical way that supports decision-making.
Requirements
- 7+ years’ experience in Security Architecture, Security Engineering, or related roles.
- Strong understanding of security architecture domains (identity and access management, network and perimeter, application security, data protection, logging and monitoring).
- Proven experience reviewing and influencing system and integration designs from a security perspective.
- Good knowledge of security frameworks and standards such as ISO 27001, NIST, CIS Controls, or similar.
- Ability to produce clear security requirements, design guidelines, and review comments that solution teams can implement.
- Comfortable working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders (IT, GRC, business) and negotiating trade-offs.
- Excellent communication skills in English and comfortable working in a hybrid model (remote plus occasional on-site visits to Casablanca and/or London).
Nice to have
- Experience securing systems in engineering, construction, energy, utilities, or other project-driven industries.
- Exposure to cloud security (e.g. Azure, AWS) and hybrid environments (on-prem + cloud).
- Familiarity with SOC, SIEM, and monitoring tools and how their outputs should influence architecture decisions.
- French language skills and/or experience working with Francophone or North African clients.
- Previous involvement in EA or design authority forums (ARB, CAB, design review boards).
Benefits
- Central role in embedding security by design into a new Enterprise Architecture capability for a major engineering and project-delivery group.
- Work in a small, senior team that values practical, risk-based decisions over box-ticking.
- Hybrid working model - remote by default, with focused on-site trips to build relationships and support key workshops.
- Opportunity to work across Intelance’s wider Cybersecurity, EA, and AI portfolio and influence how security is built into our methods.
- Competitive compensation with options for freelance / Ltd company engagement or longer-term collaboration.
- Direct access to Intelance leadership and the chance to help shape our security architecture playbooks and accelerators.
If you are a Security Architect who enjoys making real-world designs safer without paralysing delivery, we’d like to hear from you. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief introductory call, followed by a practical case discussion with the Intelance team.
