Job Description

In Q4 2023, Intel announced Altera will be reported as a separate business unit beginning on January 1, 2024 with ongoing support from Intel. This position is associated to that standalone business strategy and is expected to fully transition to a standalone company at some time in the future.

Altera delivers cutting-edge custom logic solutions across a wide spectrum of customer markets. To help our customers to develop and implement innovative solutions we are looking to expand our European Applications Engineering team with a motivated External Memory Interfaces Applications Engineer.

As an External Memory Interfaces (EMIF) IP applications engineer you will serve as a technical subject matter expert for memory protocols and provide customer enabling solutions and technical issue debug to enable our key European customers to successfully meet market demands. Your specific role will include the following:

  • Work closely with field engineering and customer design teams to assist in the design, implementation and verification of External Memory Interfaces in high-performance FPGAs using Intel and third-party design software Quartus, ModelSim, Questasim, etc).

  • Perform design evaluations and recommend strategies to implement and optimize designs for important design opportunities.

  • Develop technical collateral including reference designs and presentations to demonstrate Altera products for both internal and external audiences.

  • Evaluate new software/IP and provide feedback to developers to improve the quality of Intel tools, IP, and methodologies.

  • Anticipate future customer requirements and contribute to product planning and definition of product enhancements.

  • Develop designs for next generation memory IPs, including DDR4, DDR5, LPDDR4, LPDDR5, QDR-IV, and High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM2)

  • Evaluate new features, perform corner-case testing, and demonstrate performance to key European customers.

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams for issue resolution and validation, and provide feedback to engineering on memory IP quality and customer experience.

  • Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

  • BS in Electronics Engineering or equivalent.

  • A minimum of 5 years of FPGA or ASIC design experience

  • Experience with FPGA and/or ASIC VHDL, Verilog, SystemVerilog coding, validation and/or simulation/verification tools)

  • Advanced English

  • Preferred Experience:

  • Design experience using FPGAs with high performance External Memory Interface controllers and protocols including DDR3/DDR4 SDRAM and/or QDR-IV SRAM.

  • Experience in high-speed digital signal integrity board design and signal behaviour.

  • Use of modern laboratory equipment such as high-speed oscilloscopes and memory software packages
