Position: Information Manager

Location: United Kingdom, with occasional travel to client offices in London

Employment Type: Full time, Permanent

Reports To: Vice President

We are currently seeking an Information Manager to manage a law firm’s information services team and support the delivery of high-quality research services to the law firm.

Responsibilities And Duties

  • To lead the Information team
  • Client Account Management: leading and delivering account management for the client, liaising with the client on workflows, team strategy and reports on the service
  • Line Management: to lead delivery team, including line management / performance management of three Senior Information Officers, one Information Officer
  • Research: answering higher level and complex legal research requests. Monitoring and tracking trends in the enquiry service
  • Procurement/Resource Management: management of the Information Service annual budget, tracking spending, reporting on resources and monitoring trends. Identifying and piloting new databases, modules, or tools
  • Leading or supporting commercial discussions with information vendors, including license review, contract negotiation, and identifying opportunities to optimise resource spend and value for the service
  • Project management: supporting the delivery of team projects and liaising with the client
  • Actively promoting the service to end users/key stakeholders

Required Skills/Abilities

  • At least six years’ experience in Information Services, preferably in a legal environment
  • Ability to engage and effectively communicate with senior stakeholders within a law firm, including Partners, Business Development and other Senior Management
  • Experience undertaking higher level legal research and answering enquiries in an enquiry desk service
  • Extensive knowledge of key information and research databases including legal research sources
  • Effective line management or team leader experience

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Confident in managing budgets and vendors, and commercial negotiations
  • Ability to anticipate and resolve problems

Education And Experience

  • Information-related qualification (degree or postgraduate) and or/ equivalent qualification (CILIP chartership)
