What if the next generation of epigenetic diagnostics ran on a test you helped design? Tagomics is a Cambridge-based biotechnology company developing a next-generation multi-omic biomarker discovery platform to transform how disease and drug safety are understood, measured, and monitored. Originating from pioneering research by Dr Robert Neely and colleagues at the University of Birmingham, our proprietary technology integrates genetic, epigenetic, and fragmentomic features from circulating cell-free DNA. Combined with advanced bioinformatics and machine learning, this enables deep biological insight across applications ranging from early cancer detection to drug safety and organ health monitoring. We have the science, the funding, and the momentum, and we’re now building the production-grade engineering platform for our first products. To achieve this, we are expanding our multidisciplinary team at Babraham Research Campus, one of Europe’s leading life-science hubs.
The Role: We are looking for a highly motivated Product Developer to join our Product Development team. You will serve as a key individual contributor responsible for translating novel R&D concepts into scalable, high-throughput diagnostic products for cancer detection. Your primary focus will be the design, optimization, and validation of molecular assays while ensuring strict adherence to design control and regulatory requirements.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Product Translation: Translate innovative technologies into actionable, interpretable experimental designs suitable for a high-throughput clinical laboratory environment.
- Workflow Implementation: Design and implement robust clinical workflows, including the authoring of SOPs, experimental protocols, and technical reports for the Design History File (DHF).
- Design Control & Product Development Process Ownership: Develop and implement ISO 13485 compliant Design Controls for Tagomics products within an electronic Quality Management System (eQMS).
- Operational Integration: Develop assays with a focus on commercial scalability, incorporating automation, Quality Control metrics, and LIMS integration.
- Technical Transfer: Lead the transfer of developed assays from R&D into production, providing training and technical documentation for laboratory operators.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Bioinformatics, Automation, Clinical, and Regulatory teams to ensure product performance aligns with market and regulatory needs.
- Mentor & Troubleshoot: Oversee laboratory tasks performed by others, providing technical mentorship and leading troubleshooting efforts for complex molecular workflows.
What We're Looking For:
- Essential:
- Design Control Expert: Deep familiarity with product development lifecycles and the ability to translate technical insights into prioritised experimental designs, ideally with domain expertise in cancer biology.
- Molecular Assay Specialist: Extensive theoretical and hands-on expertise in multi-component molecular biology (e.g., NGS, PCR) at both the sample preparation and assay development levels.
- Product-Minded Scientist: 8+ years of bench experience with a proven track record of optimising molecular biology techniques within developed, regulated workflows.
- Delivery-Oriented: A strong sense of urgency with a focus on hitting project timelines and delivering results through collaborative, cross-company partnership.
- Data-Driven: Excellent data interpretation skills with the ability to leverage bioinformatics tools to inform study design and drive product refinement.
- Education: In biology, molecular biology, genetics or a related field with 8+ years of industry experience in product development.
- Desirable:
- Domain expertise in cancer biology
- Deep technical knowledge of epigenetic and NGS technologies
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities at a high level
- Capable of leading projects with cross-functional teams
- Extensive experience working under an ISO/GCLP accredited QMS
What We Offer:
- Competitive salary
- Share option scheme
- Matched pension contributions up to 8%
- Private healthcare
- Performance-related bonus scheme
Important Notes: We are not currently able to sponsor visas for this role. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK. No agencies please. We will not be accepting speculative CVs for this opening. Tagomics is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team.
