What if the next generation of epigenetic diagnostics ran on a test you helped design? Tagomics is a Cambridge‑based biotechnology company developing a next‑generation multi‑omic biomarker discovery platform to transform how disease and drug safety are understood, measured, and monitored. Our proprietary technology integrates genetic, epigenetic, and fragmentomic features from circulating cell‑free DNA. Combined with advanced bioinformatics and machine learning, this enables deep biological insight across applications ranging from early cancer detection to drug safety and organ health monitoring. We have the science, the funding, and the momentum, and we’re now building the production‑grade engineering platform for our first products. To achieve this, we are expanding our multidisciplinary team at Babraham Research Campus, one of Europe’s leading life‑science hubs.

The Role

We are seeking a proactive and highly organised Laboratory and Facility Manager to oversee the day‑to‑day operations of our scientific facilities and building infrastructure. You will be responsible for creating an environment where our researchers can focus entirely on innovation. This role requires a unique blend of technical laboratory knowledge, facility maintenance expertise, and strong people and time‑management skills.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Laboratory Operations: Manage daily lab activities, including equipment maintenance, calibration schedules, asset record‑keeping and appropriate waste disposal routes.
  • Health, Safety & Environment (HSE): Act as the primary safety officer. Oversee hazardous waste disposal, conduct safety inductions for new staff, and ensure absolute compliance with COSHH and other local regulatory standards.
  • HTA license & accreditations: Responsible for the update and compliance of license terms, as well as implementing new requirements to support business growth. Oversee the preparation and build‑out of laboratory space to maintain GCLP compliance and achieve ISO readiness (ISO 9001, ISO 13485).
  • Technical Documentation and Risk Management: Author high‑quality SOPs and Risk Assessments as part of an ISO accreditation ready electronic Quality Management System (eQMS).
  • Process Development & Operational Excellence: Design and implement new operational processes from the ground up to support a scaling laboratory environment, driving efficiency and consistency across workflows.
  • Facility Management: Supervise all building functions, including helpdesk systems, electrical and hydraulic maintenance, security, and cleaning services. Coordinate with external contractors for any repairs or refurbishments.
  • Procurement & Inventory: Manage laboratory consumables and reagent stock levels within an electronic inventory management system. Negotiate supply agreements with vendors to ensure cost‑effective and timely delivery of materials.
  • Space Planning: Lead the layout and configuration of lab spaces to accommodate new projects, equipment installations, or team growth.
  • Budgeting: Prepare and track operational budgets for both lab supplies and facility maintenance, identifying opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • Technically Versatile: You have a solid background in a laboratory setting (e.g. a degree in Biology, Chemistry, or equivalent experience) and understand the specific needs of a high‑tech R&D environment.
  • Regulatory‑Minded: You are well‑versed in health and safety protocols and have experience in building and maintaining an ISO accredited laboratory environment.
  • Process Development & Operational Excellence: You can design and implement new operational processes from the ground up to support a scaling laboratory environment, driving efficiency and consistency across workflows.
  • Project Leader: You possess strong organisational skills and can project‑manage complex tasks like laboratory moves or large‑scale equipment installations.
  • Problem Solver: You have a "hands‑on" attitude and can troubleshoot mechanical or operational issues before they escalate into significant downtime.
  • Self‑Directed: You have demonstrated ability to work autonomously, take ownership of decisions, and drive initiatives forward with minimal oversight.
