Job Description

A fantastic new opportunity has arisen within Integrated Utility Services and we are looking for an experienced Head of Commercial. This role can be based at either our Stockton or Wakefield office.

We are currently in search of a talented and motivated Head of Commercial. Reporting to the Commercial Director, the Head of Commercial will be responsible for the overall commercial strategy, performance, and risk management across a portfolio of projects across the UK. You will lead and mentor a dedicated commercial team, ensuring robust contract administration, effective cost control, and maximised profitability, all while maintaining strong client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

·Provide strategic commercial leadership across a portfolio of projects across the UK.

·Lead, manage, and develop a team of Quantity Surveyors and Tendering & Estimators, providing guidance, training, and development opportunities to ensure high performance and alignment with company goals.

·Oversee all commercial aspects of projects from tender stage through to final account settlement.

·Lead contract negotiations for existing accounts, ensuring favourable terms for both parties while aligning with the company's goals and revenue targets.

·Oversee the financial performance of key accounts, including budgeting, forecasting, and ensuring that commercial agreements are managed within the agreed cost structures.

·Ensure rigorous application and administration across a range of standard form and bespoke contracts.

·Develop and implement commercial strategies to manage risk and maximise opportunities.

·Manage subcontractor procurement and performance, ensuring KPIs (e.g., service levels, cost efficiency, delivery accuracy) are met or exceeded.

·Prepare regular performance reports for senior management and clients, with a clear focus on sustaining and growth

·Oversee cost reporting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting.

·Lead on the negotiation and resolution of claims and variations.

·Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, delivery partners, and the supply chain, ensuring ongoing communication and collaboration to meet their evolving needs, while safeguarding the revenue stream.

·Drive continuous improvement within the commercial function.

·Work closely with internal departments (e.g., operations, supply chain, customer service) to resolve client issues, streamline processes, and ensure smooth, efficient service delivery.

·Act as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Commercial Director.

Qualifications and Attributes

Essential Qualifications and Experience

·Proven experience operating at a senior level (e.g., Commercial Manager, Senior Commercial Manager, Head of Commercial) within a main contracting environment.

·Demonstrable experience working on large-scale infrastructure, civil engineering, or utilities projects.

·In-depth, expert-level understanding and practical application of a range of contracts, including NEC.

·Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).

·Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff.

·Excellent negotiation, communication, and influencing skills. Commercially astute with a strategic mindset and strong analytical abilities.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

·Professional membership (RICS/CICES) is advantageous, or willing to attain this.

·Prior experience with DNO/IDNOs in the UK is highly beneficial but not essential.
