An exciting opportunity has arisen for the right candidate to join our specialist team of Cardiac Physiologists here at UHCW.

UHCW is one of the largest acute Trust\’s in the country. With 17Cardiology Consultants, we provide World Class innovation and research in all aspects of Cardiology.

The Cardiac Investigations department offers a comprehensive range of in and outpatient invasive and non-invasive speciality procedures. With a region leading Cardiac Imaging service, offering a full repertoire of echocardiography. A Cardiac Catheter Suite performing a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic services, including complex device implantation and extraction, an EP and Ablation service with state of the art technology.

We are seeking an experienced, dynamic and enthusiastic Cardiac Physiologist/Clinical Scientist to join our service here at UHCW and at our Community Diagnostic Hubs to manage and develop the non-invasive service and team and be the training coordinator lead, to develop the workforce within the department. To ensure national standards, guidelines and accreditations are met.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

Main duties of the job

  • To work closely with the Head of Department and Lead Physiologists to ensure that current vocational, national and academic requirements for the training and development of junior staff are met and maintained.
  • Where no training pathways exist to design, facilitate and deliver training and development schemes.
  • To work clinically in area of expertise, be and manage the clinical demand, and waiting list.
  • To ensure all clinical non-invasive procedures and clinics are booked to meet demand and capacity.
  • Day to day management of team, ensuring everyone has PDR in place linked to required knowledge and skills framework for a tailored training and development schedule.
  • To ensure that mandatory training is completed and up to date for whole team.
  • To act as clinical assessor and supervisor to regional degree students on placement including placement management and audit.
  • Undertake clinical supervision and training of other qualified professionals including physicians.

Job responsibilities

  • Have significant experience working independently as a band 7 BSE accredited specialist practitioner in both Non-Invasive Cardiac Physiological testing and being involved with training of STPs ETPs, junior Cardiac Physiologists and Cardiographers.
  • To work as a highly specialist practitioner across the range of procedures performed in the Department of Cardiac Investigation (DCI) and the Catheter Lab, furthermore, to provide operational management support to the DCI manager/Chief Clinical Physiologist for the specified area within Cardiac Investigations.
  • To provide nationally accredited highly specialist expertise for clinical practice, ensuring that all procedures and data produced are to the required standard and are documented in accordance with Operational Procedures/national guidelines.
  • To work across all sites as required, managing the workload for your designated clinical area, ensuring effective workforce planning, maximized capacity and robust service delivery.
  • To ensure diagnostic tests are performed in accordance with protocols and diagnostic reports containing a range of complex facts and measurements are accurate and produced in a timely manner.
  • To actively contribute to service developments and expansion, taking part in Audits, Capacity and Demand planning and supporting business case developments.
  • Experience with implementing change management and development of CP led services.
  • Experience with budgetary management.
  • Experience with training and mentoring Cardiac Physiologists, Cardiographers and Students.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant national service specifications and standards for Echocardiography, Pacing & Devices, Cardiac Catheterisation and Non-Invasive Diagnostic Cardiac Tests, and how to implement them.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively across multiple stakeholders. With good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage your own time and workload.
  • Proven ability to work within a pressured environment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team.

The post holder must be a BSE accredited independent practitioner with experience of education and training of STP\’s, ETP\’s, junior Cardiac Physiologists and Cardiographers.

This post holder will report to the Head of Cardiac Investigations Department.

This is a full time position 37.5 hours/week worked over 5 days on an 0830 to 1630 working pattern (Monday – Friday). We would encourage a visit to the department.
