The Role: Our client, a market leader in the heavy industrial maintenance sector, is currently recruiting for an Estimator for a permanent position. This will be a hybrid role, involving attending meetings in the Wakefield office 1-2 days per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain compliance with departmental procedures as laid down in the Quality Management System.
  • Control and organise proposals.
  • Prepare and organise timely submission of tenders in response to client's invitations to tender.
  • Assist the Proposals Manager in identification of sales budgets and potential business opportunities.
  • Secure business for the company in line with budgets, at the best possible price and return.
  • Arrive for continual business improvement.
  • Prepare detailed spreadsheets to show tender breakdown.
  • Support the Proposals Manager providing information and documentation as required for response to contract notices in the various journals.
  • Appraise Site Engineers Tender estimates for direct labour.
  • Appraise Site Engineers assessment of Subcontractors bids.
  • Assist in negotiations with clients.
  • Attend site meetings with clients.
  • Maintain regular contact with other departments, i.e. Quality, Safety, Operations and Finance to ensure that any potential contract requirements are duly considered.
  • To reduce costs and increase efficiency wherever possible.
  • To act and behave with integrity in an unbiased and professional manner at all times.
  • To help promote a team spirit and enthusiasm in the Proposals Department.
  • Work to the Companies Policies with regard to Safety, Quality & Environmental.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years previous experience in an industrial sector.
  • Good Microsoft Excel skills and competent in other standard Microsoft software.
  • Confident in written and verbal communication with internal/external stakeholders including with senior roles.
  • Basic understanding of engineering/construction technology and terminology.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering specifications and drawings.
  • Basic understanding of contractual terminology.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines.
  • Flexibility in terms of working hours.
