The Role

Our client is currently recruiting for a Quality Manager / Weld Inspector for a major Energy from Waste (EFW) power station construction project in North London. The role will involve taking full responsibility for managing and coordinating all quality control activities on site, ensuring all structural welding meets strict industry safety and compliance standards, leading the quality management system (QMS) while directly overseeing welding procedures, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), and mechanical installation.

Serve as the primary Quality Control representative on site, reporting operationally to the Project Site Manager.

Procedure Compliance: Verify welders and procedures (WPS/PQR) meet strict codes e.g., BS EN

Quality Assurance Leadership: Maintain, improve, and audit the QMS to ensure all documentation aligns with power generation regulatory standards.

Pre & Post Weld Inspection: Perform pre-weld fit-up checks, monitor temperature limits during welding, and conduct final visual inspections for defects such as cracks or porosity.

NDT Oversight: Coordinate and interpret Non-Destructive Testing (e.g., UT, MPI, RT) and oversee Post Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) where necessary.

Traceability & Documentation: Compile and review Quality Records, weld procedures, and material certificates to maintain end-to-end traceability.

Non-Conformance Management: Identify, record, and manage deviations, non-conformances, and quality progress through established quality systems.

Requirements

  • CCNSG card
  • Certifications: Minimum CSWIP 3.1/3.2 Welding Inspector. Level II or III NDT certifications (PCN or ASNT) in UT, MPI, or PT are highly desirable.
  • Education: Degree or HNC/HND in Welding Engineering, or a related mechanical engineering discipline.
  • Experience: Overseeing quality of mechanical installation, fabrication and welding of structural steelwork, preferably on EFW power station construction sites.
