Mechanical Fitter – Materials Handling / Conveyor Systems

Location: Maidstone, Kent
Duration: 3–4 Weeks
Hours: 12 Hours Per Day – 7 Days Per Week
Rates: Grade 5 – Blue Book Rates

Rate:

  • Basic Days: Β£23.45/hr + Holiday Pay (Β£2.82) - Β£26.27 per hour - First 38 hours
  • O/T 1: Β£32.83/hr - Over 38 hours and up to Saturday 12pm
  • O/T 2: Β£42.21/hr - After Saturday 12pm and Sunday
  • Accommodation: Β£53.39 per day

The Role

We are currently recruiting experienced Mechanical Fitters for a 3–4 week maintenance project in Maidstone.

The work will primarily involve the maintenance, repair and overhaul of materials handling and conveyor systems within an industrial environment. Candidates must have previous experience working on conveyors, materials handling equipment or similar heavy industrial mechanical plant.

The project is scheduled to operate 12-hour shifts, 7 days per week, with rates paid in accordance with Grade 5 Blue Book rates.

Duties & Responsibilities

Typical duties will include:

  • Planned and reactive mechanical maintenance
  • Maintenance and overhaul of conveyor and materials handling systems
  • Removal, replacement and installation of mechanical components
  • Maintenance and replacement of bearings, rollers, pulleys and shafts
  • Conveyor belt maintenance and associated mechanical works
  • Alignment and adjustment of conveyor systems
  • Working on gearboxes, motors, couplings and drive assemblies
  • Inspection of mechanical equipment to identify wear, defects and potential failures
  • Dismantling and reassembly of mechanical plant and equipment
  • Use of hand tools, power tools and mechanical fitting equipment
  • Working from mechanical drawings and maintenance instructions
  • Assisting with breakdowns and planned maintenance activities
  • Working closely with supervisors and other trades to ensure work is completed safely and to programme
  • Maintaining high standards of housekeeping and site safety

Essential Requirements

  • NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Fitting or equivalent recognised mechanical qualification
  • Valid CCNSG Safety Passport or ACE Card
  • Previous experience as a Mechanical Fitter within an industrial environment
  • Experience working on conveyor systems and/or materials handling equipment
  • Strong understanding of mechanical maintenance and fitting techniques
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts and the required project pattern
