The Mechanical Supervisor will oversee the installation and coordination of all mechanical systems associated with boiler installation and auxiliary plant equipment on a new-build industrial facility. The role requires a strong background in heavy mechanical installation, with a specific focus on boilers, pressure parts, pipework, and associated mechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate mechanical installation activities related to boiler systems, pressure parts, ducting, pipework, pumps, and associated mechanical assemblies.
- Ensure all installation works are executed in line with project specifications, engineering drawings, and quality standards.
- Lead and manage mechanical fitters, welders, and rigging crews to ensure safe, efficient progress in line with the construction schedule.
- Oversee pre-fabrication, lifting, alignment, and installation of major mechanical components.
- Ensure all works comply with site safety procedures, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Liaise closely with the engineering and QA/QC teams to ensure mechanical systems are installed to the required standards and tolerances.
- Supervise pressure testing, flushing, and commissioning preparation works.
- Coordinate with other trades (electrical, structural, and civil) to maintain smooth interface management.
- Conduct daily briefings, toolbox talks, and ensure that all personnel under supervision are fully aware of their duties and safety responsibilities.
- Monitor productivity, report progress, and contribute to short-term planning and lookahead schedules.
- Maintain accurate site records, inspection documentation, and ensure all quality assurance paperwork is completed.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Supervisor on large-scale industrial or energy sector projects (e.g., power generation, process plants, refineries).
- Strong background in boiler installation, pressure part assembly, and heavy mechanical installation works.
- Sound knowledge of mechanical systems, pressure equipment, and relevant installation standards (e.g., BS EN, ASME).
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strong focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Up-to-date certifications including:
- CSCS Gold/Black Card (Supervisory Level)
- SSSTS or SMSTS
- Confined Space and Working at Height (desirable)
- First Aid at Work (preferred)
- Pressure Systems awareness (desirable)
