We are currently seeking an experienced Structural Steelwork Erection Supervisor (Civils) with strong structural steel knowledge to support the delivery of a new build power generation project in Essex. The successful candidate will oversee civil works on site, coordinate subcontractors, maintain site safety standards, and ensure the project is delivered in line with engineering specifications and programme targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise day-to-day civils and structural steel activities on site
- Coordinate labour, subcontractors, plant, and materials
- Ensure works are delivered in accordance with engineering drawings and specification
- Manage health & safety compliance, toolbox talks, site inductions, and RAMS
- Maintain accurate site records, progress reports, and daily diaries
- Liaise with Project Engineers, Site Managers, and Client Representatives
- Monitor quality control and resolve technical queries where required
- Ensure work meets programme deadlines and budget expectations
Civils Responsibilities
- Supervise groundworks, drainage installations, foundations, reinforced concrete structures, and associated civils packages
- Oversee setting-out requirements and ensure works are undertaken in line with issued drawings
- Coordinate plant, equipment, materials and subcontract labour to meet programme milestones
- Monitor and maintain correct installation of RC works, shuttering, formwork, rebar placement, and concrete pours
- Ensure all underground services are protected, surveyed and recorded prior to works commencement
- Resolve on-site technical queries related to civils activities and liaise with design/engineering teams as required
Structural Steel Responsibilities
- Oversee the erection and installation of structural steel frames, platforms, supports, and associated fabricated components
- Ensure correct alignment, bolting, torquing, and welding activities adhere to specification and QA requirements
- Coordinate cranage, lifts planning, and safe lifting operations in line with LOLER and site safety rules
- Review steelwork drawings, GAs, and connection details to verify correct installation sequencing
- Inspect steelwork for damage, defects, tolerances and ensure documentation is recorded for inspections and sign-offs
- Work closely with fabricators, steel erectors and engineering teams to maintain accuracy and workflow continuity
Requirements
- Proven experience supervising civil engineering works on large industrial or power-related projects
- Strong background in structural steel erection and installation
- SSSTS or SMSTS certification (essential)
- CSCS Supervisor/Manager level card (essential)
- First Aid at Work (preferred)
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
- Excellent communication, coordination and problem-solving skills
