Role Purpose

To provide a safe, responsive, and efficient maintenance service across the site, carrying out planned and reactive tasks to maintain buildings, services, and associated equipment. The role supports statutory compliance, contractual performance standards, and a safe environment for building users.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintenance & Repairs - Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs across a range of building systems and fabric. Undertake basic mechanical, electrical, and general building maintenance tasks, including:
    • Plumbing repairs (taps, toilets, leaks)
    • Basic HVAC checks (filters, simple fault reporting)
    • Fabric repairs (doors, locks, ceilings, flooring)
    • Minor electrical works (lamp replacements, visual checks)
  • Identify faults and take appropriate action to resolve or escalate. Support specialist engineers and subcontractors as required.
  • Compliance & Safety - Follow all health and safety procedures, including risk assessments and safe systems of work. Carry out basic compliance tasks within competency, such as:
    • Water hygiene checks (flushing, temperatures)
    • Visual inspections of safety systems
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with site policies and statutory requirements. Use PPE appropriately and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Documentation & Systems - Accurately record all work activity using CAFM or site systems. Complete work orders, update job status, and record materials used. Assist in maintaining site records and compliance documentation.
  • Facilities & Site Support - Assist in maintaining clean, safe, and functional plant areas and workspaces. Support site setup activities, minor moves, and general operational tasks. Respond to service requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Customer & Team Working - Communicate effectively with colleagues, customers, and site users. Provide updates on work progress and escalate issues where required. Work collaboratively with other team members and contractors.
  • Materials & Equipment - Use tools and equipment safely and correctly. Assist with stock control and ordering of basic materials. Maintain equipment in good working condition.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Essential - Basic experience in building maintenance or facilities management. General knowledge of multiple trades (e.g. plumbing, minor electrical, carpentry). Understanding of safe working practices.
  • Desirable - NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in a relevant trade. Experience working in schools, healthcare, or commercial environments. Basic compliance knowledge (e.g. water hygiene, H&S). Relevant training such as Manual Handling, First Aid, or Asbestos Awareness.
