Overview

Are you passionate about optimizing building performance while driving sustainability? We\’re looking for an experienced Asset & Energy Operations Manager to join our Workplace Management team!

Location: Greater London with equal split envisaged between our flagship sites in Hammersmith, London Bridge and Oxford St

The Asset and Energy Operations Manager will be responsible for driving the strategic optimisation of energy and building performance across two iconic London developments. This role combines robust technical expertise with a passion for sustainability, aiming to ensure that both properties remain at the forefront of operational excellence, energy efficiency, and environmental certification compliance.

Reporting into senior leadership and working collaboratively with stakeholders across the WPM UKI / JLL enterprise and external clients, the role will play a pivotal part in aligning each property’s operations with BREEAM In-Use, NABERS UK, and the forthcoming UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard (2025).

Accountabilities

  • Lead strategic asset and energy management for both clients..
  • Develop and implement site-specific energy optimisation strategies that reduce operational carbon and improve building performance.
  • Ensure compliance with current and future green building certifications and sustainability frameworks.
  • Develop and implement metering strategies and reporting schedules in line with the service charge to enable accurate reflection and billing of all energy consumption around the estates.
  • Collaborate closely with WPM UKI / JLL teams, contractors, consultants, and occupiers to deliver energy and sustainability goals.
  • Act as the primary technical advisor on building performance, lifecycle asset planning, and infrastructure optimisation.
  • Support sustainability-related reporting, initiatives, and audits for both client and internal stakeholders.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver and manage energy optimisation strategies and action plans for both sites.
  • Monitor, analyse, and report on building performance using CAFM, BMS, EMS, and metering platforms, identifying areas for efficiency improvements.
  • Lead or support re-certification processes for BREEAM In-Use and NABERS UK as required.
  • Prepare buildings for future compliance with the UK Net Zero Carbon Standard, due late 2025.
  • Oversee delivery of technical energy and sustainability projects (e.g. plant upgrades, HVAC improvements, decarbonization pathways).
  • Engage with occupiers and service partners to promote best practices in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
  • Review building usage and occupancy to ensure BMS and plant are optimized in line with actual requirements and demonstrate reduction in consumption and emissions.
  • Support capital planning and lifecycle analysis to ensure long-term asset performance and cost-effective operation.
  • Identify and implement digital tools and platforms to enhance energy management and operational insights.
  • Collaborate with sustainability teams to feed into reporting frameworks such as GRESB and client-specific KPIs.
  • Stay up to date on legislative and market developments relevant to energy, sustainability, and building standards.

Strategic Thinking and Change Management: Managers must align asset and energy management strategies with organisational goals, be innovative, and adapt to changing requirements. They should be able to channel the energy and activities of others in support of the organisation’s objectives and manage change effectively.

Continuous Improvement and Quality Focus: A commitment to continuous improvement is expected, including the ability to identify opportunities for process improvements, embrace change, and develop innovative solutions. Managers should focus on outcomes-based quality standards and key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive improvements.

Compliance and Risk Management: Managers must ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations, and be able to demonstrate the risks associated with non-compliance. They should be able to build and oversee the implementation of compliance programmes and demonstrate knowledge of compliance management.

Self-awareness and Professional Development: Managers should be self-aware, actively seek feedback, advocate self-development, and encourage the same in others. They should energise others by showing passion and commitment and be systematic in their approach to work with high attention to detail.

Qualities & Experience

Essential:

  • Qualification in Building Services Engineering, Technical FM, or Technical Asset Performance.
  • Strong understanding of BREEAM In-Use, NABERS UK, and Sustainability standards in the built environment.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering energy-saving projects and optimisation strategies in large, complex commercial buildings.
  • Proficient in use of CAFM, BMS, EMS, metering systems and building analytics platforms.
  • Highly organised and capable of managing multiple workstreams across different sites.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills – able to work across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Passionate about sustainability, with a proactive approach to innovation and improvement.

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership (e.g. CEng, CIBSE).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a technical FM, energy management, or asset performance role.
  • Experience working with landmark or high-profile assets.
  • Familiarity with ISO 50001 or other energy management systems.
  • Knowledge of the upcoming UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard and net zero delivery methodologies.
  • Experience contributing to or managing sustainability-related disclosures such as GRESB, SECR, or TCFD.
  • IOSH Managing Safety.
