CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATOR
Location: Dartford Salary: £30,000–£34,000 per annum Working hours: Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm
We’re recruiting for an organised and detail-focused Customs Administrator to join a busy operation based in Dartford.
You’ll manage day-to-day customs formalities and help ensure UK and European transport operations run smoothly.
Working closely with customs agents, customers and operational colleagues, you’ll coordinate the documentation and information required for compliant import and export clearances.
Key responsibilities
- Facilitating the clearance of goods entering and leaving the UK through appointed customs agents.
- Collating and checking documentation for import and export shipments.
- Accurately recording customs transactions on internal systems.
- Liaising with importers, exporters and operational colleagues to obtain mandatory information.
- Reviewing commercial invoices and packing lists and extracting the data needed for declarations.
- Auditing customs declarations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Supporting operational teams with HMRC and EU customs queries.
- Setting up new customers, including direct representation forms, powers of attorney and liability documents.
- Ensuring customs formalities remain fully compliant.
What we’re looking for
- Strong administration skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Confidence handling data and checking documentation for accuracy.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work with customers, agents and internal teams.
- A proactive and organised approach with a strong focus on compliance.
- Previous customs, freight, logistics or import/export experience would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of CDS customs processes or relevant BIFA training would be beneficial.
