The Role
We are recruiting an experienced Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Engineer to lead and manage HSE compliance across multiple electrical infrastructure and power projects throughout the UK. This is a hands-on role suited to a technically strong HSE professional with proven experience in substations, transmission & distribution, and EPC / ICP environments. You will take ownership of HSE systems, site compliance, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives, working closely with project and site teams to embed a strong safety culture across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the Health, Safety & Environmental Management System in line with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001
- Prepare, review, and update Construction Phase Plans (CPP) in accordance with CDM 2015
- Produce and manage Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for company works and review subcontractor submissions
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and task-based risk assessments across multiple project locations
- Lead investigations into incidents, near misses, and non-conformances, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and closed out
- Act as HSE / Management Representative during ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 audits
- Support tender and bid submissions with HSE documentation as required
- Deliver toolbox talks, inductions, safety briefings, and HSE training sessions
- Develop and report on HSE KPIs, producing clear and accurate weekly and monthly reports
- Liaise with clients, regulators, DNOs / IDNOs, and other stakeholders to ensure full compliance
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' HSE experience within electrical infrastructure, substations, ICP, EPC, or power projects
- Proven experience working on HV / EHV / T&D environments
- NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate, NVQ Level 6/7, and/or GradIOSH / CMIOSH
- Strong working knowledge of CDM 2015, Electricity at Work Regulations, and UK HSE legislation
- Demonstrable experience preparing CPPs, RAMS, and HSE Plans
- Experience participating in or leading ISO audits
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK
- Willingness to travel nationwide as required

- Experience working with National Grid, DNOs, or IDNOs
- Availability at short notice
- Experience covering multiple live project sites concurrently
