An experienced Transformer Rigging Supervisor is required to support a National Grid substation project in Kent. The role will take full responsibility for the safe planning, supervision, and execution of transformer movements, positioning, and installation activities within a live or regulated substation environment.
The successful candidate must hold National Grid Competent Person (CP) authorisation and have proven experience supervising transformer rigging operations on UK transmission or distribution substations.
Responsibilities- Supervision of all transformer rigging activities on site
- Act as National Grid Competent Person in accordance with NG safety rules and procedures
- Ensure all lifting and rigging operations are planned, approved, and executed safely
- Review and implement lift plans, method statements, and risk assessments (RAMS)
- Coordinate with crane suppliers, rigging teams, and specialist subcontractors
- Interface with National Grid representatives, site management, and engineering teams
- Ensure compliance with National Grid, HSG, and project-specific safety standards
- Monitor works in live or controlled substation environments
- Lead toolbox talks, safety briefings, and site inductions related to rigging activities
- Report on progress, issues, and any safety or programme risks
- Proven experience as a Transformer Rigging Supervisor on HV / EHV substations
- Current National Grid Competent Person authorisation (essential)
- Strong experience with transformer installation, removal, and replacement works
- Demonstrable experience working on National Grid transmission substations
- In-depth knowledge of heavy lifting, rigging methodologies, and specialist plant
- Ability to manage rigging teams and specialist subcontractors
- Strong understanding of safety rules, permits, and controlled environments
- National Grid Competent Person (CP)
- Relevant lifting and rigging qualifications
- SMSTS or SSSTS
- CSCS (relevant supervisor or manager level)
- First Aid (preferred)
- Experience working on live substations or outage-based programmes
- Familiarity with National Grid policies, procedures, and safety documentation
- Experience on 132kV / 275kV / 400kV substations
