An established aluminium systems house specialising in the design, manufacture and installation of curtain walling and shopfront systems is seeking an experienced Head of Estimating to lead and develop its estimating function. This is a senior role with full responsibility for the estimating strategy, bid governance and tender performance, working closely with pre-construction, commercial, design and operations teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the estimating department across curtain walling and shopfront projects
- Take ownership of bid strategy, tender submissions and pricing governance
- Review drawings, specifications and contract documentation to assess scope and risk
- Oversee preparation of accurate cost plans, take-offs and pricing schedules
- Manage and develop a team of estimators, providing leadership and mentorship
- Liaise with supply chain and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations
- Support value engineering, design development and buildability input
- Work closely with commercial and operational teams to ensure smooth project handover
- Maintain tender accuracy aligned with market rates, risk profiles and company margin targets
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a senior estimating role within aluminium systems, façade, curtain walling or glazing sectors
- Strong understanding of curtain walling, shopfronts, aluminium windows/doors and façade interfaces
- Experience working for a systems house, façade contractor or specialist envelope contractor
- Strong commercial awareness and contract knowledge (JCT / NEC beneficial)
- Ability to manage multiple tenders and priorities effectively
- Confident leader with strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Qualifications (Desirable)
- Degree or HNC/HND in Construction, Quantity Surveying or related discipline
- Professional membership or estimating qualifications advantageous
