As the business continues to thrive, we’re on the lookout for a SHEQ Advisor to join our talented SHEQ Department.

Role Overview

The SHEQ Advisor will act as a trusted business partner, providing proactive Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) support across manufacturing, logistics and construction operations.

The role is responsible for identifying operational risks, implementing practical improvements, advising managers on compliant and commercially balanced solutions, and driving continuous improvement throughout the business.

Working closely with operational teams, clients, contractors and senior management, the post holder will help embed a positive SHEQ culture, ensure legal compliance, improve operational performance and maintain robust integrated management systems aligned to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership, Advice & Business Partnering
  • Provide proactive SHEQ advice across all business functions, influencing decision-making and promoting a positive safety culture.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to managers, balancing legal compliance with practical operational requirements.
  • Coach and mentor managers, supervisors and employees in SHEQ responsibilities and behavioural safety.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, contractors and internal stakeholders to promote best practice.
  • Operational Assurance & Compliance
  • Undertake planned and unplanned inspections, audits and compliance reviews across factories, logistics and construction sites.
  • Review and challenge RAMS, lifting plans, temporary works, permits and safe systems of work.
  • Verify competence, training and statutory inspections for plant, lifting equipment, MEWPs and work equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with UK legislation, client requirements and company procedures, including RIDDOR where applicable.
  • Lead the implementation of SHEQ improvement initiatives across all departments.
  • Identify operational, behavioural and management system weaknesses before they result in incidents.
  • Work with department managers to develop practical, sustainable solutions and embed improvements.
  • Drive corrective and preventative actions through to completion and verify effectiveness.
  • Review existing SHEQ processes and recommend improvements that simplify compliance and improve operational performance.
  • Incident Investigation & Problem Solving
  • Lead or support investigations into incidents, near misses, environmental events and quality issues using root cause analysis.
  • Identify underlying systemic failures and recommend effective corrective and preventative actions.
  • Communicate lessons learned and monitor implementation.
  • Environmental & Sustainability
  • Support ISO 14001 implementation and environmental compliance.
  • Monitor waste, COSHH, pollution prevention, noise, dust, LEV and environmental controls.
  • Support sustainability initiatives, carbon reporting and environmental objectives.
  • Integrated Management Systems
  • Maintain and continually improve ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Develop SHEQ procedures, digital inspections, forms, reporting tools and documentation.
  • Support internal and external audits and coordinate closure of non-conformances.
  • Performance Monitoring & Reporting
  • Analyse SHEQ data, trends and KPIs to identify recurring issues and opportunities.
  • Produce reports and present findings and recommendations to management.
  • Support client audits, tenders and pre-qualification submissions with SHEQ evidence.
  • Support emergency planning, drills, business continuity, first aid and fire safety arrangements.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (or equivalent).
  • ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 Internal Auditor qualification (or willingness to obtain).
  • CSCS Card.
  • SMSTS or SSSTS (or willingness to obtain).
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Experience implementing SHEQ improvements and management systems.
  • Strong understanding of UK SHEQ legislation and ISO standards.
  • Knowledge of BS7121 lifting operations.
  • Experience with sustainability reporting.
  • Experience presenting SHEQ performance to senior management and clients.
  • Tech IOSH (or working towards Grad IOSH).
  • Experience within manufacturing, construction or modular environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical ability.
  • Ability to identify risks before they become incidents.
  • Strong implementation and change management skills.
  • Commercial awareness and practical decision making.
  • Ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
  • Resilient, organised and self‑motivated.
