IF YOU'RE THE TECHNICIAN PEOPLE TURN TO WHEN THE FAULT CODE DOESN'T TELL THE WHOLE STORY, WE'D LIKE TO TALK TO YOU
Intechnic is a specialist commercial vehicle emissions engineering company, supporting some of the UK's largest fleet operators with complex diagnostics, emissions engineering and technical support. We're looking for an experienced HGV Technician who's good at diagnostics and knows how to get to the bottom of a difficult fault. You'll work within major fleet engineering environments, solving difficult, intermittent and recurring vehicle faults where your experience and judgement genuinely matter.
WHAT MAKES THE ROLE DIFFERENT?
- Proper diagnostic work: Difficult faults that need investigation, not just a fault code and a replacement part.
- Major fleet environments: Work alongside established engineering teams responsible for some of the UK's largest commercial vehicle fleets.
- Trusted to get on with the job: Take ownership on site and use your own technical judgement.
- Independent, not isolated: An experienced technical, operational and commercial team is behind you when you need them.
- Established workload: We manage the customer relationships and coordinate the workload. You concentrate on the engineering.
- Paid from your door: Mobile working and travelling time are paid door-to-door.
- Want a three-day weekend? Choose to work your weekly hours across four weekdays.
- Specialist training provided: You don't need to arrive as a DPF or SCR expert. Bring the diagnostic ability and we'll develop the emissions knowledge.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Diagnosing electrical, electronic, mechanical and engine-management faults
- Investigating difficult, intermittent or recurring vehicle problems
- Using professional diagnostic equipment, live data and wiring diagrams
- Electrical testing of sensors, wiring, connectors and control systems
- Identifying the root cause of faults rather than relying solely on fault codes
- Supporting fleet engineering teams at customer depots
- Carrying out repairs and component replacement where required
- Recording findings clearly and explaining recommendations to customers
- Helping us develop our capability and knowledge within the HGV sector
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Strong practical HGV experience
- Good diagnostic and electrical fault-finding ability
- Confidence using commercial-vehicle diagnostic equipment
- Ability to interpret wiring diagrams and live vehicle data
- A logical and methodical approach to difficult faults
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of a job
- Good communication and workmanship standards
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness to travel to customer sites when required
An NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent experience, would be beneficial.
PAY AND WORKING PATTERN
The starting rate is £19.00 per hour, with progression to £21.00 per hour as you develop within the role. Mobile work is paid door-to-door, including travelling time. There are no rigid standard working hours because customer locations and individual jobs vary. Typically, the role involves around 40–50 paid hours per week.
OPTIONAL 4-DAY COMPRESSED WORKING WEEK
If having more time away from work matters to you, there's another option. You can choose to complete your normal weekly hours across four weekdays, with your regular day off agreed between us. The four-day option involves longer working days in exchange for a regular three-day break. Possible working patterns include:
- FRIDAY + SATURDAY + SUNDAY OFF
- SATURDAY + SUNDAY + MONDAY OFF
If you prefer working across five weekdays instead, that option remains available.
WHAT YOU WON'T BE DOING
The role is built around planned technical support at established commercial vehicle depots and our specialist workshop rather than traditional mobile breakdown work.
- No roadside breakdown rota
- No routine weekend work
- No night-shift pattern
Most mobile work is carried out at established commercial-vehicle depots with workshop facilities. Overnight stays are occasionally required because we support customers throughout the UK, but they are relatively rare. When required, accommodation is arranged separately and a £25 overnight allowance is paid.
WHY JOIN INTECHNIC?
We're a small specialist engineering company, and we want to remain a business where good people are noticed, trusted and valued. You won't become another technician number inside a huge organisation. You'll work closely with the people running the company, have the freedom to use your experience and judgement, and be encouraged to contribute your own ideas. You'll also have something substantial behind you: established customer relationships, an experienced team and a regular pipeline of technical work. We take care of developing and maintaining those customer relationships and creating the opportunities. Your focus is on delivering the engineering expertise that keeps those customers coming back. As we develop further into the HGV market, you'll also have the opportunity to influence how that side of the business grows rather than simply joining something that has already been built.
WHAT YOU GET
- £19.00/hr starting rate, progressing to £21.00/hr
- Door-to-door paid mobile working
- Optional four-day compressed working week
- Monday-to-Friday working only
- Company van and fuel card
- 5% employer pension contribution
- Specialist diagnostic and emissions training
- Rare overnight stays
- Varied diagnostic work rather than repetitive servicing
- Exposure to major UK commercial vehicle fleet environments
- Experienced technical, operational and commercial support
- Established customer relationships and a regular pipeline of work
- Opportunity to help develop Intechnic's growing HGV capability
- Long-term employment within a growing specialist engineering company
BRING YOUR EXPERIENCE. WE'LL GIVE YOU THE PLATFORM TO USE IT.
If you're an experienced HGV technician who enjoys solving difficult problems, is confident taking ownership of a job and wants the freedom to use your technical judgement, we'd like to hear from you. You don't need to arrive as an emissions specialist. Bring us your HGV experience, diagnostic ability and willingness to learn. We'll provide the specialist training, established customers, technical support and steady flow of work around you. And as Intechnic's HGV capability grows, your knowledge and contribution will have a genuine part in shaping it.
