Overview

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Systems Engineer to join a leading life sciences organisation on a contract basis. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in systems administration, identity and access management, and endpoint/device management, who also brings a solid understanding of enterprise networking. As a Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting and optimising the company’s IT infrastructure – including Google Workspace, Okta, JAMF, Microsoft Intune, and both on-prem and cloud network environments.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Administer and support identity and access management platforms, especially Okta for SSO and MFA
  • Manage users, groups, and permissions across Google Workspace, ensuring smooth lifecycle management
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain macOS (via JAMF) and Windows devices (via Intune)
  • Work closely with internal IT and security teams to ensure systems are secure, compliant, and scalable
  • Provide advanced support for network infrastructure, including LAN/WAN, VPN, and Wi-Fi
  • Maintain and improve monitoring, alerting, and performance tuning for systems and networks
  • Contribute to infrastructure automation and configuration management processes
  • Assist with onboarding/offboarding, device provisioning, and access control workflows
  • Produce and maintain up-to-date documentation on systems architecture, configuration, and SOPs
  • Evaluate and recommend tools to enhance system security, performance, and reliability

  • Networking: Fortinet Fortigate firewalls, Cisco Catalyst 9300 switches, VPNs (Palo Alto GlobalProtect, AWS/GCP site-to-site)
  • AWS VPC, Transit Gateway; GCP VPC
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred)

Skills and Experience

  • Deep knowledge of modern device management, SSO/identity platforms, and user lifecycle processes
  • Hands-on experience managing and supporting users and devices in a Google Workspace environment
  • Solid experience with macOS and Windows fleet management using JAMF and Intune
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, protocols, and security principles
  • Experience supporting and integrating cloud platforms (AWS/GCP) with enterprise infrastructure
  • Ability to work independently and with IT and business teams
  • Relevant certifications are a plus (e.g., JAMF Certified Admin, Okta Certified Admin, Google Workspace Admin, CCNA, Network+)
