We are exclusively retained by a leading global financial institution to find their next Head of Platform Engineering, a genuinely strategic leadership role at the heart of a major infrastructure modernisation agenda. This is a rare opportunity to own the platform engineering vision end-to-end — unifying database, cloud, and storage technologies through Site Reliability Engineering, and building the self-service platforms and CI/CD pipelines that will underpin engineering delivery across the business.
You’ll lead a team of circa 9, sit within the Digital Engineering Solutions and Services leadership team, and have full ownership of budget, licensing, and vendor relationships across the platform estate.
What you'll be doing:
- Define and execute a Platform Engineering strategy aligned to enterprise and digital transformation goals
- Lead the roadmap across DevSecOps, generative AI, and automated infrastructure provisioning
- Own environment strategy, access control, and release readiness across production and non-production estates
- Build and promote self-service platforms and CI/CD pipelines to drive developer velocity
- Own cost, feasibility, and ROI across the Platform Engineering function
- Act as the senior escalation point across Platform, SRE, Database, Storage and Cloud
- Lead, coach and grow a high-performing technical team across multiple regions
Experience Required:
- Proven leadership of Platform Engineering / SRE / Build & Release teams within Financial Services
- Experience managing global, multi-region technology teams in a 24/7 production environment
- A strong product mindset — track record of treating internal platforms as products
- Hands-on technical depth across Linux, Windows, AWS, Azure, OCI, Kubernetes, IaC, and enterprise database/storage technologies (MSSQL, Oracle, MongoDB, Snowflake, Dell EMC, Rubrik etc.)
- Strong stakeholder management skills — able to translate technical strategy into business value at senior level
- Experience navigating regulatory and risk frameworks (DORA experience a strong plus)
