A fast-moving, rapidly growing commodity trading firm, and a leading market-maker in energy derivatives, is expanding its technology leadership and looking for a Lead Security Engineer to take full ownership of its security function.
This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced security professional who has operated in high-performance financial services environments and is comfortable setting strategy while remaining deeply technical.
Overview
As Lead Security Engineer, you will be responsible for building, leading, and executing the firm’s security strategy end-to-end. Working closely with the CTO and senior technology stakeholders, you will ensure that trading systems, infrastructure, and data are secure, resilient, and aligned with industry best practice. The ideal candidate will have strong experience within financial services, ideally from trading, capital markets, or large-scale banking environments, and will be confident leading security in a fast-paced, commercial setting.
Role & Responsibilities
- Own and lead the security function, including strategy, roadmap, and execution
- Design, implement, and maintain security frameworks, policies, and controls
- Act as the senior hands-on security authority across the organisation
- Ensure alignment with recognised security frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST, CIS, SOC2, etc.)
- Embed security by design across infrastructure, cloud, networks, and applications
- Lead incident response, vulnerability management, and threat mitigation
- Partner closely with engineering, infrastructure, and leadership teams
- Support audits, risk assessments, and regulatory requirements relevant to financial markets
Essential Skills & Requirements
- Proven experience in a senior or lead security engineering role
- Strong background in financial services, ideally within commodity trading, energy trading, capital markets, or investment banking
- Deep hands-on security engineering and architecture experience
- Experience building, leading, or significantly maturing a security function
- Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure and modern cloud environments
- Comfortable operating in a high-pressure, high-accountability trading environment
