You will own the full employee lifecycle for a small to medium-sized engineering team comprising both full-time employees and contract staff. This is a hands-on, operational position for someone who is equally comfortable developing and improving the HR function as running the day-to-day processes within it.
- HR operations & systems
- Own and manage HR administration and reporting
- Continuously improve systems and tools to reduce manual effort and increase accuracy
- Draft, review, and manage employment contracts, contractor agreements, offer letters, and policy documents
- Ensure all HR communications are accurate, consistent, and professionally presented
- Maintain a central library of HR templates, SOPs, and process documentation
- Ensure all HR policies are up to date and aligned with current UK employment law
- Manage right-to-work checks, employment documentation, and data privacy obligations
- Support internal audits and ensure HR practices meet regulatory standards
- Payroll coordination
- Own payroll inputs: attendance, leave, changes, and ad hoc adjustments
- Liaise with payroll vendors and the finance team to ensure accurate, on-time processing
- Employee relations
- Manage employee relations cases including probation, performance, and disciplinary matters
- People cycles & performance
- Lead core people processes, including performance reviews, probation confirmations, and annual cycles
- Facilities
- Ensure office facilities and services are running effectively to support the requirements of the team
5+ years’ experience in HR, People Operations, or a similar generalist role. Proven ability to own HR operations independently with minimal oversight. Comfortable managing both contractor arrangements and FTE workforces. Familiarity with IR35 / contractor classification obligations. CIPD qualification (Level 3 or above) or equivalent.
