Job Description:

Summary:

As the Electrical Engineer for utility-scale solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in the UK, you will be the driving force behind the entire electrical design, moving projects seamlessly across the feasibility, conceptual, detailed, and construction stages. Your core responsibility will be ensuring the final electrical outputs meet all stringent technical, regulatory, and commercial expectations. This role is perfectly suited for an experienced engineer with essential knowledge of UK Connection of Utility-Scale Renewables, ready to take ownership by designing and approving complex systems and working collaboratively with internal teams (procurement, site) and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and coordination of LV, MV, and HV electrical systems for solar PV and BESS projects (up to 132kV).

• Oversee the preparation of detailed designs including cable routing, SLDs, protection schemes, grounding, and earthing systems.

• Define technical specifications for key components: inverters, transformers, switchgear, batteries, and SCADA.

• Perform load flow, fault level, and protection coordination studies using software such as DIgSILENT or ETAP.

• Ensure designs meet DNO/DSO and National Grid compliance (G99, G100), IEC/BS standards, and INTEC internal quality benchmarks.

• Support the preparation and review of tender packages, BoQs, and technical evaluations.

• Act as technical lead in client, contractor, and DNO/TNO interface meetings.

• Assist with site installation supervision, FAT/SAT activities, and technical commissioning when needed.

• Collaborate with civil, structural, and mechanical teams to integrate multidisciplinary project aspects.

• Mentor junior electrical engineers and review their deliverables for quality and compliance.

Qualifications:

• 4+ years of experience in utility-scale solar PV and/or BESS project design and delivery.

• Strong knowledge of UK grid codes (G99, G100), BS/IEC standards, and HV design principles.

• Proficiency in AutoCAD or ETAP, DIgSILENT, or similar engineering tools.

• Familiarity with EPC project phases: pre-construction, procurement, installation, and commissioning.

• Bachelor’s degree and Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Chartered Engineer status is an advantage).

• Excellent communication and coordination skills, with experience liaising with DNOs, clients, and subcontractors.

• Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

• Full right to work in the UK and willingness to travel to sites or office locations.
