As a Material Handler Apprentice, you will build practical, hands-on experience across all aspects of warehouse operations, from receiving and checking deliveries to storing stock, picking and packing orders, preparing goods for dispatch, maintaining accurate records, and keeping the workspace clean and organised.

Annual wage: £16,661.84 (First year only!)

The pay may be negotiated and may rise after a probation period has been successfully completed.

Training course: Supply chain warehouse operative

Hours: 37 hours per week, 06:30-16:00 Monday to Thursday. However, hours reduced to 32 hours per week, 07:00 and 15:30 Monday to Thursday if candidate is under 18 years of age.

Start date: Tuesday 11 August 2026

Duration: 15 Months

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work:

  • You will be working towards the Supply Chain Warehouse Operative Level 2 standard.
  • Engage in formal training and education over a defined period and return to the workforce to shadow and learn from mentors and colleagues.
  • Complete exams and assignments and ensure all assignment work is completed in a timely manner and to a high standard.
  • All actions to meet the correct standard of quality in line with BS EN ISO 9001 and to ensure the environmental standard ISO14001 have been achieved.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Attend learning sessions to complete the Supply Chain Warehouse Operative Level 2 standard.
  • Prepare for and complete the End Point Assessment.
  • Follow health and safety procedures and maintain a clean, safe workspace.
  • Accurately complete job records, training logs, and documentation.
  • Commitment to uphold the company values whilst working in a fast-paced environment.

Training: An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Your training course: Supply chain warehouse operative (Equal to Level 2 (GCSE))

Your training plan: Supply Chain Warehouse Operative Level 2 End Point Assessment Work-Based Training Monthly Tutor/Assessor Sessions, some online and some face-to-face in the workplace

Requirements:

  • Essential qualifications: GCSE Any other (Grade 9-3 (A*-D)) essential, GCSE English (Grade 9-3 (A*-D)) essential, GCSE Mathematics (Grade 9-3 (A*-D)) essential, GCSE Science (Grade 9-3 (A*-D)) essential.

  • Work experience in a similar company or industry is preferred.
  • Minimum of four GCSEs at grade D/3 or equivalent, including mathematics, English, and science, is essential to be considered for this position.
  • Evidence of working in a team environment is desirable.
  • Ability to communicate with others effectively is essential.
  • Capable of documenting information and recording activities/plans is essential.
  • A logical approach to problem-solving is essential.
  • Good timekeeper who understands the commitment necessary to succeed is essential.
  • An enthusiasm to learn new skills is essential.
  • Occasional heavy lifting is required and essential.
  • Ability to fulfil hours of training and work is essential.
  • Familiarity with computer basics operations (i.e., MS Excel, MS Word) is essential.
