Total Bathrooms are looking for a self-motivated, hard-working, practical, customer-focused warehouse apprentice to join their friendly team. The successful applicant will need to be a good all-rounder and physically fit for lifting and moving sometimes heavy items.

Annual wage: £16,640 (First year ONLY! The pay may be negotiated and may rise after a probation period has been successfully completed.)

Training course: Supply chain warehouse operative

Hours: Monday - Friday, 8.30am - 5.00pm, with 30-minutes for lunch. 40 hours a week

Duration: 15 Months

Work: As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work:

  • Dealing with goods in - carefully checking and signing for deliveries before labelling and putting them in the right location in the warehouse
  • Picking customer orders and assembling them in our customer area
  • Loading customers' goods into their vehicles by hand with a smile and a friendly comment
  • Keeping the computer system up to date with the warehouse and stock information, and using the computer system to check and maintain customer orders
  • Replenishing displays in the showroom - e.g. when items are sold from our clearance and seconds area, replacements must be taken from stock and installed out on display looking highly presentable
  • This will require some DIY skills
  • Fixing items and helping with showroom, vehicle, and building maintenance
  • Stock checking
  • Delivering customer orders - accompanying our driver on two-person deliveries and occasionally driving the company vans (if over 21)
  • Keeping the vans and Smart Cars washed and maintained
  • Collecting goods from our remote storage location to replenish stocks in Bath
  • Driving the forklift truck and loading and unloading vehicles. Forklift training will be provided towards the end of the apprenticeship, but only after the successful applicant is fully settled into the team and fully committed to completing their apprenticeship and staying on for a period

Training: An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Your training course: Supply chain warehouse operative (Equal to Level 2 (GCSE))

Course contents:

  • Conduct risk assessments within the working environment.
  • Apply safe working practices in line with associated health and safety legislation and company policy.
  • Receive products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Store and pick products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Dispatch products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Decant, pack products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Communicate with others verbally, for example internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers.
  • Communicate in writing with others, for example internal and external customers, colleagues and managers.
  • Load and unload products, considering the product that is to be moved and its current and planned destination.
  • Use tools and equipment to aid in product handling.
  • Use information technology and digital systems.
  • Comply with GDPR and cyber security.
  • Locate and use operational information, electronic or paper based, required to fulfil contractual requirements.
  • Select, prepare, and use packaging materials that reduce waste and mitigate environmental impacts.
  • Support under instruction scheduled and unscheduled stock taking activities relevant to the organisation and product.
  • Identify and escalate problems beyond own responsibility.
  • Follow procedures in line with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance.
  • Segregate resources for reuse, recycling and disposal.
  • Follow equity, diversity and inclusion rules.
  • Carry out and record learning and development activities.
  • Conducts handover activities.

Your training plan: Supply Chain Warehouse Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard, Work Based Training, Functional Skills (if necessary), Monthly One-to-One Tutor Sessions

Requirements:

  • Desired qualifications: GCSE Mathematics & English (Grade 9-4 (A*-C) desirable, (UK Drivers Licence) 0 points desirable. Let the company know about other relevant qualifications and industry experience you have. They can adjust the apprenticeship to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements:

  • You will be working in a largely unheated area during winter, although mostly inside the warehouse, so need to wear appropriate clothing.
  • Although there are lots of trolleys, pumps, and other lifting aids, there is a lot of moving of heavy goods from: the lifting aid to the racks; to the customers car; or to the delivery van.
