Weβre looking for a hands-on Data Centre Operator to support a critical infrastructure environment based in Cardiff. This is a fully onsite role, working shifts as part of a small operations team.
Experience with Control-M or another batch scheduling tool is essential.
What Weβre Looking For:
- Solid background in IT operations or data centre environments
- Proven experience with batch job scheduling (Control-M strongly preferred)
- Confident working under pressure, including out-of-hours escalation and incident handling
- Comfortable with hands-on physical data centre tasks
- Reliable, detail-focused, and able to follow documented procedures precisely
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor systems, respond to event-driven alerts, and troubleshoot issues to keep operations running smoothly
- Escalate incidents and coordinate with on-call teams (DBA, Network) when needed
- Liaise with external vendors like BT for support and resolution of service issues
- Run scheduled jobs using Control-M or similar tools (e.g. VisualCron), including weekend release deployments
- Support physical operations β bulk printing, tape handling, packaging for offsite storage
- Conduct routine checks and building patrols to monitor temperature, alerts and hardware safety
- Maintain access logs and follow strict security and compliance procedures
- Keep internal ops documentation up to date and assist with refining procedures
- Generate daily, weekly and ad-hoc reports on performance and system health
- Support DR drills and contribute to business continuity planning
