International Installation & Service Engineer

Our client is part of a global technology group and one of the world's leading makers of high-tech manufacturing equipment. Its systems are used to produce components for a vast array of industries, and its customers include some of the biggest names in electronics. The UK operation is the group's centre of excellence for advanced production equipment. It designs, builds and supports high-precision systems used in sensors, power electronics, communications and other cutting-edge technologies. It combines the stability and investment of a multinational with the close-knit, hands-on feel of a site where engineers see their work go from concept to customer. The role This is a new, varied role in a multi-disciplined engineering team. The team makes sure complex production equipment is designed, built, installed and running at customer facilities around the world. You'll split your time between the factory in South Wales and customer sites in Europe, North America and the Far East. At home you'll help develop, build and improve the equipment. On site you'll be the technical expert who installs it, commissions it, diagnoses problems and reports what you learn to the design team. To begin with, you'll travel alongside an experienced colleague. As your knowledge grows, you'll lead installations on your own. What you'll be doing Installing, commissioning and troubleshooting new equipment at customer facilities worldwide Working directly with customers to diagnose and fix technical problems, often under time pressure Building and fault-finding new equipment designs in the factory before they ship Contributing to electrical and mechanical design, including wiring harnesses, assemblies and design changes Making new designs easier to maintain and service in the field Testing equipment against international machinery safety standards and checking compliance Planning and running hardware tests, validation and performance assessments Working with process and design engineers to improve reliability and performance Supporting new technology from early prototypes and trial systems through to production-ready products Writing clear technical reports and passing customer feedback to the engineering team About you HNC or HND (or above) in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronic or a similar engineering discipline A broad engineering background covering both electrical and mechanical systems Proven hands-on experience installing, commissioning and fault-finding complex machinery or production equipment Confidence dealing with customers, and the credibility to take the lead when things go wrong Some design experience, or a real interest in developing it; AutoCAD Electrical, Solid Edge or another 3D CAD package would be a bonus Knowledge of machinery safety standards (e.g. EN (phone number removed), EN ISO 13849) would be useful Organised, self-motivated and comfortable working on your own across different time zones Calm and practical in fast-moving, highly regulated environments You don't need experience in this specific industry. Engineers from pharmaceutical, automotive, injection moulding, packaging, special-purpose machinery and other automated manufacturing sectors are encouraged to apply. Travel: Around 50% of your time will be spent overseas, in Europe, North America and Asia. Trips usually last four weeks or more and can last up to a few months, you will spend circa six months in the year overseas. Notice is given wherever possible, but some trips may come up at short notice. All travel, accommodation and subsistence costs are covered. Salary and benefits: £48,000+ basic salary, plus bonus and excellent benefits (33 days holiday, up to 8% matched pension (so 16% in total), life assurance, health cash plan etc. You'll need to live within commuting distance of Newport and a full UK driving licence is required.
