We’re looking for a hands-on Automation Engineer to join a growing engineering team focused on driving innovation, improving manufacturing processes, and supporting new product introduction. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical challenges, building reliable control systems, and working closely with colleagues across engineering and production. You’ll play a key part in designing and programming automation solutions that support both new and existing manufacturing operations. Working alongside mechanical, electrical, and software specialists, you’ll help develop equipment, refine processes, and ensure smooth transitions from prototype phases into full-scale production. This position offers a mix of project work, problem-solving, commissioning, and ongoing optimisation.
Responsibilities
- Developing and programming control systems using PLC or industrial PC platforms
- Supporting new product introduction by contributing to equipment specifications, documentation, and integration activities
- Working with production engineering teams to deliver effective automated solutions
- Assisting with equipment selection and reviewing designs with suppliers
- Creating and updating key documentation such as electrical specifications, process flow information, and technical reports
- Investigating improvements to existing manufacturing processes and supporting continuous improvement initiatives
- Contributing to research activities involving emerging technologies such as robotics, automated soldering, laser marking, vision systems, and smart factory concepts
- Supporting trial production runs to ensure new equipment and processes meet performance expectations
- Troubleshooting issues across electrical, control, and software interfaces to keep systems running effectively
Experience
- Strong programming capability in ladder logic or structured text
- Experience with at least one major automation platform (i.e. Siemens)
- Background in designing, developing, and commissioning control systems
- Ability to deliver projects involving electrical, electronic, and software elements
- HNC or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechatronics Engineering
