Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and organize detailed case files for HMRC enquiries including collecting records, indexing evidence, and maintaining accurate documentation.
- Draft initial responses, information-notice replies, and structured HMRC submissions under advisor guidance.
- Review bookkeeping, tax computations, and transaction details to identify discrepancies relevant to the enquiry.
- Monitor all statutory deadlines (information notices, penalty appeals, payment plans) to ensure timely submissions.
- Maintain case logs, communication notes, and a complete audit trail across all dispute and enquiry files.
- Liaise with clients to obtain missing documents, clarify entries, and support them with clear checklists.
- Assist with penalty mitigation work, reasonable-excuse claims, appeal bundles, and ADR preparation.
Skills & Experience
- Strong understanding of VAT (Value Added Tax), including common enquiry triggers such as sales variances, input tax claims, mixed supplies, and reconciliation issues.
- Good working knowledge of CT (Corporation Tax) allowable vs. disallowable expenses, capital allowances, adjustments, and HMRC queries around profit figures and disclosures.
- Practical knowledge of PT (Payroll Taxes / PAYE) PAYE submissions, benefits-in-kind, director payroll matters, and RTI-related checks.
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare clear, structured summaries for senior advisors.
- Excellent written English with the ability to draft professional correspondence and HMRC-ready submissions.
- High confidentiality, strong organizational skills, and capability to follow systematic, audit-friendly workflows.
- Prior experience handling UK tax, HMRC enquiries, or dispute resolution is a strong advantage.
