About Insurance Insider
Insurance Insider is the leading provider of insights and analysis for the world’s top insurers, distributors, service providers, and investors. Since 1996, we’ve been helping clients uncover new business opportunities and protect against risks through our exclusive news, deep analysis and actionable insights on the insurance market. Our coverage extends across the London market, global (re)insurance market, insurance‑linked securities market and US property and casualty market.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Senior Product Manager to own our data business – the products, pricing, and platforms through which we package and sell data to our customers, and the systems that everything else at Insurance Insider depends on. This is a high‑ownership role with a clear, business‑critical mandate: shape how we productise and price our data for customers, and lead the build‑out of a new billing system from the ground up, while shaping the broader roadmap for the data products and infrastructure that power our business and teams.
You think in systems, not screens. You’re energised by the problems that sit beneath the surface – data models, integrations, workflows, and the architecture that makes a business run smoothly. You’re comfortable navigating technical complexity and ambiguity, and you know how to translate messy operational reality into clear, well‑sequenced product decisions. Equally, you’re comfortable facing customers and the commercial side of the business: you’ve packaged data into products people pay for, set and tested pricing, and understand how the way data is sold connects all the way through to billing.
You’re also someone who has genuinely integrated AI into how you work. Whether that’s accelerating discovery, drafting specs, interrogating data, or prototyping solutions – you use AI tools fluently, and you’re curious about pushing that further.
In this role, you’ll partner closely with engineering, finance, operations, and commercial teams to understand needs, define requirements, and ship systems that are reliable, scalable, and genuinely make people’s work easier. Much of our product & engineering team is based in Sofia, Bulgaria, so this role involves regular travel there to work side by side with the people you’ll be building with. You’ll be expected to lead – setting direction, making trade‑offs, and bringing stakeholders with you.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the strategy and roadmap for our data products and the systems that support them.
- Shape how we package and productise our data for customers, working closely with Commercial to turn market data and insight into offerings people want to buy.
- Own pricing and packaging for our data products – defining models, testing approaches, and connecting pricing through to subscriptions, entitlement, and billing.
- Lead the end‑to‑end build‑out of a new billing system – from discovery and vendor/build evaluation through to delivery and adoption.
- Define requirements for billing, subscriptions, invoicing, and revenue workflows in partnership with Finance.
- Translate complex operational and technical needs into clear, well‑prioritised product specs.
- Partner with Engineering on architecture, data models, and integrations across internal platforms.
- Map and improve internal workflows, reducing manual effort and operational risk.
- Manage integrations between billing, CRM, entitlement, and other core systems.
- Use AI tools actively in your workflow – discovery, spec drafting, data analysis, prototyping.
- Define and track success metrics for system reliability, efficiency, and adoption.
- Balance technical debt, scalability, and delivery speed when making trade‑offs.
- Communicate decisions and trade‑offs clearly to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Lead and influence across teams without direct authority.
Qualifications & Experience
- 5+ years of product management experience, with significant time spent on data products, platforms, or back‑end systems.
- Experience at a business that sells data or data‑as‑a‑service (DaaS) to customers – as distinct from a web product or SaaS business – including a customer‑facing role where you set and owned pricing.
- Hands‑on experience setting pricing for data products and selling to customers is essential, and direct experience delivering billing solutions is a must – you’ve owned or substantially contributed to a billing, payments, or subscriptions product before.
- Strong technical fluency – comfortable discussing APIs, data models, and system architecture with engineers.
- Proven ability to lead complex, cross‑functional initiatives end‑to‑end.
- Experience working closely with Finance and Operations on revenue‑critical systems.
- Fluency with AI tools in a product workflow – you can point to specific ways AI has changed how you work.
- Strong analytical skills and comfort working with data to inform decisions.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to align stakeholders across technical and commercial teams.
- Experience working in agile product teams – sprints, Jira.
- Comfortable with regular travel to Sofia, Bulgaria.
- Bonus: experience in data or information services, publishing, media, subscriptions, SaaS, or financial services.
