Assembly and Test Technician role at Instron.
Location: High Wycombe, England, United Kingdom.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the assembly and test of Transducers – both Load Cells and Extensometers – ensuring they meet the required performance and quality levels.
- Aid the improvement of processes for the assembly and test of further products as directed by the Team Leader – T&T.
- Assemble and test Transducers using the latest assembly processes, drawings, Test Specification Procedure (TSP), and calibrated test equipment.
- Correct assembly and testing of associated test load string, fixtures and jigs.
- Fault diagnosis of units under test.
- Inspect and pack Customer Orders in accordance with current procedures.
- Report faults using NCRs, ESRs, MSWs and other quality tools using Agile.
- Maintain a safe working environment with focus on housekeeping and use of PPE (safety glasses, safety shoes, etc.)
- Be aware of Risk Assessments, Safety Notice Boards and COSHH regulations and abide by them; recognise hazards and act in a controlled and safe way.
- Use trained or authorised safe hand tools, fixtures, power tools, torque wrenches and material handling equipment (e.g., overhead cranes, slings, eye bolts, pallet trucks).
- Apply administrative procedures associated with AGILE (assembly drawings, quality reporting) and IFS (product flow, stock inaccuracies, cycle counting).
- Contribute to cost reduction and quality improvement efforts.
- Occasional visits to customer sites to assist with installation and commissioning of systems.
- Understand Customer Orders and Shop Orders.
- Accept responsibility for the quality of own work.
Key Competencies
- Detailed knowledge of hand tools and tool selection.
- Quality focus and attention to detail for small assemblies (strain gauge application).
- Electronic testing and fault diagnosis to component level.
- Ability to read and understand Engineering, Assembly and Manufacturing drawings.
- Computer literacy with MS Excel and MS Word; able to use email.
- Good physical health and fitness for handling, moving and distributing heavy items.
- Electro-mechanical / Electronic wiring background.
- Experience with electro-mechanical and/or electronic assemblies (computers, electrical/electronic consumer goods); experience from military, avionics and/or electronics industries.
Qualifications
- Full relevant training will be provided.
- As a minimum, GCSE or equivalent level Mathematics; GCSE or equivalent Science subject (preferably Physics); GCSE or equivalent Craft subject (Woodwork, Metalwork, Design, Technology).
Key Experiences
- Experience with assembly and disassembly of electro-mechanical components and/or fine wiring/soldering skills.
- Experience with basic test equipment from related industries including fault diagnosis to module level and product improvement initiatives.
Working Conditions
- Normal factory environment with some exposure to open air; occasional physical discomfort due to temperature changes, noise and weather conditions.
- Working days Monday to Friday inclusive.
