Overview

The creative designer is responsible for generating high impact visual concepts that communicate ideas and messages determined by the needs of the business. Using specialist design software, these concepts are to be used to produce a broad range of digital branded marketing collateral and activities, including but not limited to; websites, sales literature (brochures, datasheets, presentations, etc), videos, animations, photos, images, publications, editorials, PR, advertisements, exhibitions, displays, and other interactive multimedia solutions. This fixed-term position is based at our European headquarters in High Wycombe, UK, and is offered on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and produce high-quality graphic designs for a variety of projects, from branding to marketing materials to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Responsible for the design, layout and maintenance of printed/digital marketing collateral (inc. online content) alongside the maintenance of the existing photography, videography, iconography and literature library.
  • Assist in the development of design concepts for new and existing marketing materials in a variety of mediums, including but not limited to printed collateral, high-quality photography, animations and video.
  • Provide general design support for the Product Marketing team including but not limited to the gathering files and/or photos, creating clipping paths and touching up photos.
  • Ensure that the design of assigned projects is consistent with approved creative concepts and Instron’s corporate standards, core values and brand guidelines.
  • Regularly engage and manage vendors, suppliers and agencies to ensure the business benefits from competitive rates for external services.
  • Ability to take photos or videos using a Digital SLR camera and, when required, direct professional photographers and videographers during pre-production, production and post-production.
  • Consult with customers, stakeholders and managers to understand specialist design needs and targets.

Key Competencies & Skills

  • Possess strong design skills including the ability to interpret and implement creative direction.
  • Proficient in using design and photography software - Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Microsoft Office on PC based platform.
  • Confident using video, sound editing and animation software (Adobe Premiere, After Effects & Audition).
  • Innovative, with the ability to meet both the brief and deliver a high-quality outcome.
  • Self-directive in planning and delivering projects (on-time and in-budget); collaborating with stakeholders to showcase product/service/event for maximum engagement with target audiences.
  • Must be an excellent team player and possess the ability to work independently.
  • Solid experience using Web UI (HTML & CSS – WordPress) and Web Content Management Systems.
  • Versatile Photography skills, both in a controlled studio environment as well as on site plus experience with studio lighting and sound capture is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of printing and production methods.
  • Desire to maintain awareness of emerging technologies in new media, constantly striving to gain further knowledge and willing to learn new things related to creative design.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in creative design (or equivalent qualification/marketing-related discipline).
  • Demonstrable relevant experience working in a Designer role supported by an individual project portfolio. Experience gained in a B2B, Engineering or Manufacturing environment is preferred but not essential.

Key Experiences

  • Worked within an office-based team and demonstrated the ability to pro-actively deliver projects.
  • Portfolio of creative design projects (ideally in business-to-business and/or industrial environments).
  • Recently practiced using Web UI software (preferably Sitecore and/or WordPress).

Working Conditions

Office Based. Occasional exposure to the manufacturing section of the building where there may be limited physical discomfort due to the environment (temperature, noise, dust, etc); appropriate PPE will need to be worn alongside adherence to relevant H&S procedures. The position may require intermittent travel throughout the year (less than 10%).
