The Role

We are looking for a motivated team player to lead on key areas of work supporting investors to develop and implement net zero investment strategies. The role is central to IIGCC’s ability to continue to shape the climate agenda within the finance industry, by strengthening investors’ application of theNet Zero Investment Framework(NZIF), Climate Resilience Investment Framework (CRIF) and other leading industry guidance.

This role will report to the Head of Climate Strategy Implementation and work closely with the rest of the team given the cross-cutting nature of the topics of relevance. You will be responsible for leading and coordinating technical work to enhance investor capabilities in assessing climate-related risks and opportunities. This includes working closely with leading investors to identify existing challenges and support the implementation of our existing guidance. This role will have an initial focus on developing implementation tools for private markets investments in close collaboration with the Senior Specialist – Real Assets.

While this role is initially offered on a fixed term basis for 12 months, we hope that the contract can be extended.

Main responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the team to develop implementation tools for private markets investments.
  • Engage with investors to identify barriers and needs in terms of strengthening and expanding their net zero and resilience investment strategies and develop actionable plans to address these needs.
  • Undertake relevant research and analysis to inform guidance, case studies and activities to support members to implement IIGCC climate frameworks.
  • Design and lead investor workshops, surgeries, webinars and other events focused on providing solutions to investors climate strategy challenges.
  • Partner with investors, data vendors, and investment consultants to develop and publish practical tools, guidance, and thought leadership that enhance investor capabilities in assessing climate-related risks and opportunities.
  • Work closely with team members coordinating multiple initiatives (e.g.,Net Zero Asset Managers,Paris Aligned Asset Owners, EMDE Investor Taskforce, etc) to generate insights and harness expertise to inform IIGCC’s implementation support.
  • Align efforts with IIGCC’s policy team and corporate engagement teams to facilitate alignment between investors’ expectations of investee companies, asks of policymakers and regulators and investors’ own climate aware practices.
  • Represent IIGCC in other investor network collaborations such as GIIN, iCI etc. to ensure IIGCC, its work and the views of its members are effectively represented in these fora.
  • Oversee third party consultants to undertake relevant research and analysis where this is not being carried out by IIGCC.
  • Monitor and report on the outputs and impact of IIGCC’s work to funders.
  • Liaise with the communications team as a key point of contact around collating content for communications outputs.

Some travel, including internationally, will be necessary as well as some out-of-hours calls.

Skills and capabilities

Essential

  • Significant experience of working on issues relating to climate change and finance, ideally in a private finance sector context. Alternatively, experience working in a relevant consulting or financial sector role with professional studies or demonstrated understanding of financial markets and climate change.
  • Familiarity with technical issues including transition (e.g., GHG accounting) and physical climate risk, financial and social impact materiality.
  • Experience of investment and climate related issues across asset classes, with experience or understanding of private markets investments (debt and equity).
  • Strong project management, coordination and organisational skills, with proven ability to prioritise.
  • Experience of effectively leading projects and/or multi-stakeholder workstreams.
  • Strong communication skills, including interpersonal, verbal and written. Confident public speaker and presenter.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Self-motivated, flexible and disciplined.
  • Enthusiastic and positive approach.
  • Fluent in routine IT tools including Microsoft Office.
  • Fluency in English language (written and spoken).
  • Willingness to occasionally travel as part of the role.

Desirable

  • Understanding of the interface between public and private finance is an advantage.
  • Fluency in other languages (e.g., French, Spanish, Portuguese, German).
  • Experience in public speaking and delivering presentations.
  • Previous management or administration of programmes related to philanthropic grants.
  • Previous line management experience.
