About the Role

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) is seeking an Infrastructure and Cloud Engineer to design, implement, manage, and support our organisation's ICT infrastructure, with a primary focus on cloud-based technologies. This role is essential in ensuring the availability, performance, scalability, and security of both on-premises and cloud environments to meet business objectives and drive digital transformation.

Responsibilities

  • 1st Line Support: Resolve routine cloud issues (user access, connectivity, configuration) and monitor systems for alerts.
  • 2nd Line Support: Address complex issues (performance, misconfigurations, integration) and collaborate with vendors.
  • 3rd Line Support: Advanced troubleshooting for critical incidents (data integrity, infrastructure failures, security breaches) and design long-term solutions.
  • Provide exceptional support through all channels (in person, phone, email, Teams).
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical users.
  • Liaise with Business Units for cloud technology implementation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve cloud infrastructure issues (outages, connectivity, performance).
  • Perform routine maintenance (updates, backups, security checks).
  • Document processes and solutions.
  • Implement security measures (firewalls, encryption, access controls).
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (GDPR, DPA, PCI/DSS).
  • Stay updated on new technologies and best practices.
  • Obtain certifications and attend training.
  • Develop migration strategies for on-premises to cloud.
  • Deploy cloud services (VMs, databases, storage, networking).
  • Automate cloud resource deployment using IaC tools (Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Ansible).
  • Monitor and manage cloud resources efficiently.
  • Optimise cloud spending.
  • Set up monitoring tools for performance and availability.
  • Work with technical staff to resolve complex issues.
  • Create and maintain documentation for cloud architecture.
  • Understand container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Train users on new software and hardware.
  • Provide guidance on best practices and preventive measures.
  • Record issues and resolutions in a ticketing system or knowledge base.
  • Provide feedback to development teams based on recurring issues.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in a related field such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a similar discipline or equivalent experience.
