IOM3, the leading membership organisation for the materials, minerals and mining communities, is recruiting a Staff Writer to join the Content Team in London on a hybrid basis.

The Staff Writer will play a key role in our editorial team, working on Materials World magazine and digital content. Reporting to Magazine Group Editor Rupal Mehta, you'll produce news pages, contribute to digital content, and take ownership of regular magazine sections including events listings and book reviews.
You’ll be expected to attend events and site visits for reporting, maintain the magazine’s social media presence across Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn, and support the production process through to print. As you develop in the role, there may be opportunities to contribute to podcast production.
Responsibilities
- Source and write news stories, special reports, profile pieces and long-form articles
- Take ownership of regular magazine sections including Events Listings and Books
- Proactively search for stories and develop new content ideas
- Source high-quality images and liaise with the design team
- Proofread copy and check layouts for print and online content
- Maintain social media channels and upload magazine content to the website
- Participate in weekly digital news coverage rota
- Attend events and cultivate industry and academic contacts
- Meet editorial and production deadlines consistently
The ideal candidate has:
- At least two years' experience working as a journalist
- Confidence working with scientific material and interest in science journalism
- Proven ability to write incisive, well-structured news and features
- Strong interview and reporting skills
- Excellent command of English language and grammar
- High attention to detail and strong proofreading skills
- Ability to work to multiple tight deadlines with accuracy under pressure
- Experience with InDesign for sub-editing
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media platforms
- Self-starter attitude with ability to work independently and as part of a small team
