We invite you to join our dynamic Nature team as Principal Marine Ecologist in one of our UK and Ireland offices, including Basingstoke, Manchester, Glasgow, Bristol, Leeds, Birmingham, Cambridge and Dublin. Flexible hybrid working is available.
Key Responsibilities- Act as a subject‑matter expert, providing technical marine ecological and marine consenting advice both internally and externally.
- Direct input across a broad range of projects, including full EIA or DCO cycles, marine ecology impact assessments, ES chapters and HRA, MCZ and WFD assessments, and licence/permitting support.
- Maintain high‑quality deliverables, ensuring compliance with rigorous quality management procedures.
- Communicate complex scientific information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams—acoustics, coastal processes, water science, marine archaeology and EIA specialists—to improve environmental outcomes.
- Contribute to business development: develop technical and fee proposals, marketing materials and client liaison.
- Present to internal and external audiences.
- Manage projects effectively, overseeing resources, budgets and progress reporting.
- Take part in AECOM‑accredited PM training and procure specialist subcontractors when required.
- Mentor and train team members, fostering a supportive environment for professional growth.
- Comprehensive marine ecological expertise, with demonstrable experience preparing and reviewing specialist technical chapters and impact assessments (EIA, HRA, MCZ, WFD).
- Deep knowledge of UK marine consenting and licensing regimes; experience liaising with and submitting licence applications to MMO, NRW, Scottish MD and The Crown Estate.
- Ability to apply advanced scientific practices, theories and technologies to diverse marine projects.
- Team coordination experience, including line management and mentorship of junior staff.
- Business development experience: preparing tenders, client presentations and proposals.
