Are you passionate about Marine Ecology? Join our dynamic Nature team as Principal Marine Ecologist across several UK and Ireland offices, including Basingstoke, Manchester, Glasgow, Bristol, Leeds, Birmingham, Cambridge, and Dublin. In this role, you will work on national and international projects ranging from offshore wind to habitat restoration, flood defence, and coastal developments.
Responsibilities
- Provide subject-matter expertise on marine ecology and consenting, delivering technical advice to internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead marine ecology impact assessments, including ES chapters, HRA, MCZ, and WFD, and support licence and permitting applications.
- Ensure high-quality deliverables that meet rigorous quality management procedures.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (underwater acoustics, coastal processes, water science, marine archaeology, EIA specialists) to improve environmental outcomes.
- Contribute to business development: develop technical and fee proposals, marketing materials, and client liaison.
- Manage projects: allocate resources, monitor budgets, report progress to clients and internal stakeholders, and procure specialist subcontractors when required.
- Mentor and train team members, fostering a supportive environment.
Qualifications
- Comprehensive marine ecological expertise with proven experience preparing and reviewing technical chapters and impact assessments (EIA, HRA, MCZ, WFD).
- In-depth understanding of marine consenting and licensing regimes across the UK, and experience liaising with regulatory bodies such as MMO, NRW, Scottish MD, and The Crown Estate.
- Strong technical knowledge and advanced scientific methods applicable to diverse marine projects.
- Experience coordinating teams, line management, and mentoring junior colleagues.
- Business development experience, including tenders and client presentations.
