The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 Β£ per year.

Decommissioning capability is a new function required for the future progress and development of the Raynesway site. There will also be a requirement to assist in the Submarine disposal programme. This role will require travel to other sites around the UK in support of the decommissioning programmes.

As the Decommissioning Engineer you will be required to manage and control the planning, sequencing and completion of post-operational clean out, care and maintenance, de-plant, decontamination and demolition of nuclear facilities and submarine disposal, including site characterisation, decommissioning planning and application of decommissioning technologies and techniques. Management of contractors during site operations will be a requirement of the role to ensure compliance. This is a multi-function role, needing total flexibility to enable swift mobilisation and in return there will be vast and varied knowledge gained.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Developing overall (i.e site) and individual facility 'outline' and 'detailed' decommissioning strategies and plans.
  • Conducting decommissioning feasibility studies and assessments, and defining decommissioning execution logic to mitigate technical and programmatic risks.
  • Application (through design and/or operational advice) of decommissioning principles, including: site characterisation, decommissioning planning and application of decommissioning technologies and techniques.
  • Planning and definition of decommissioning execution logic to assure safety and efficiency, decommissioning preparedness and risk mitigation techniques, supervision and control of physical activities.
  • Support (through design and/or operational advice) effective decommissioning risk management, including: identifying hazards or significant changes; assessing risks and identifying the associated engineered and/or administrative risk reduction or mitigation actions.
  • Application of knowledge of environmental and waste legislation relating to decommissioning activities.
  • Development of technical specifications for contractor tendering.
  • Assist in the development of characterisation and sample plans.
  • Management of Contractors.

Position Qualifications

  • Understanding of decommissioning strategic objectives, typical decommissioning phases and decommissioning safety cases.
  • Knowledge of planning, sequencing and completion of post-operational clean out, care and maintenance, de-plant, decontamination and demolition of nuclear facilities.
  • Knowledge and application of techniques and methods for site characterisation to support decommissioning strategy development and validation of decommissioning plans.
  • Data Quality Objectives (DQO) & Data Quality Assessment (DQA).
  • Knowledge and application of typical decommissioning techniques, including Post Operational Clean Out (POCO), decontamination, dismantling, de-energising and demolition.
  • Knowledge and application of methods and techniques for site radiological assessment & material sorting, waste processing, conditioning & passivation, waste storage & transport, and waste disposal (licensing and/or repository).
