This is an exciting opportunity for an accomplished Marine Engineer Submariner (MESM) or nuclear operations professional with strong Control/Manoeuvring Room experience in Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) environments. You will play a central role in supporting operational safety, plant oversight and technical governance across customer programmes. As a senior specialist, you will provide deep operational insight, deliver technical assurance, and support clients in maintaining the highest standards of nuclear safety, compliance and watchkeeping performance. This high-impact role is ideal for someone proactive, dependable, commercially aware, and committed to supporting the safe and efficient operation of nuclear facilities.
Responsibilities
- Apply PWR operational expertise to support safe plant operation, readiness assessments and procedural compliance.
- Provide Control/Manoeuvring Room Supervisor-level insight into operational decision-making, safety implications and plant status.
- Review, assure and contribute to operational documentation, procedures and instructions.
- Support clients during commissioning, testing, operational transitions and configuration changes.
- Provide operational input to safety cases, technical assessments and hazard analyses.
- Conduct independent operational assurance activities, readiness reviews and site inspections.
- Assist clients in preparing for regulatory engagements, inspections and operational demonstrations.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, safety, operations and project delivery.
- Mentor developing operators and engineers.
Requirements
Essential Requirements
- Previous qualification and experience as a MESM / PWR Watchkeeper / Cat A Operator (civil or defence nuclear).
- Strong understanding of nuclear operations, plant systems, operating rules, emergency arrangements and control-room discipline.
- Demonstrable familiarity with UK nuclear regulatory frameworks, including Authorising Conditions / Licensing Conditions.
- Proven ability to provide clear operational judgement and technical advice in high-consequence environments.
- Strong communication skills with a commitment to excellent client engagement.
- Ability and willingness to mentor others and contribute to capability growth.
Desirable Requirements
- Chartered status (e.g. IMarEST, IMechE, IET or equivalent).
- Consultancy or technical advisory experience.
- Project management experience.
- Existing SC or DV security clearance (or the ability to obtain it).
