Our client, operating within the technology sector, is seeking a motivated Senior Database Engineer for a contract position. The role is based out of Warrington or Stockton, with the flexibility of a hybrid working scheme. The position requires eligibility for SC Clearance if needed.
As a Senior Database Engineer, you will design, develop, implement, and test database server solutions using Microsoft SQL Server or similar technologies integrated within PLC/SCADA-based control systems. This role includes producing high-quality and comprehensive engineering design documentation and undertaking various detailed activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Designing and developing database solutions integrated within control systems
- Creating requirements capture and traceability documentation
- Preparing System/Functional Design Specifications and Detailed Software System Specifications
- Developing Test Specifications for Module/Integration/System/Hardware
- Supporting the creation of Operation & Maintenance Manuals, including Database Management Instructions
- Collaborating with PLC and SCADA engineers for integrated system development and testing
- Ensuring efficient data access through indexing, query optimisation, and database tuning
- Implementing measures for data accuracy, consistency, and security
- Identifying and resolving server and database-related issues, ensuring high availability and minimal downtime
- Supporting in-house and site acceptance testing, ensuring change control management
Job Requirements
Essential experience:
- Experience in creating and implementing database structures within a PLC/SCADA control system design
- Deployment experience with servers, VMWare, and OS configurations in large-scale networked infrastructures
- Proficiency in SQL, MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, and/or Python
- Strong knowledge of database concepts, data modelling, and indexing
- Significant experience in data migrations, archiving, backup, and recovery procedures
- Ability to produce high-quality database design and logical structure diagrams
- Experience in formal testing, validation, and change management activities
- Ability to work as part of an Integrated Delivery Team or independently
- Proficient in Microsoft Office with strong technical documentation writing skills
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Desirable Experience
- Experience in the EC&I industry or highly regulated industries such as Nuclear, MOD, or Pharmaceutical
- Experience with cloud-based platforms like GCP, AWS, or Azure
- Knowledge of database clustering, load-balancing, and redundancy
- Familiarity with integrated SCADA control system applications
- Experience in OT Cyber Security and developing cyber secure designs
- Understanding of Sellafield Ltd Mgmt. System (V-Model) and Engineering Standards
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor\’s Degree in Software or related field, or significant experience with an emphasis on EC&I engineering using databases
Desirable Qualifications
- Membership in a relevant professional institution
- Certified training in SQL-related courses
- Certified Cyber Security training
