Applications are invited for appointments as a Clinical Lecturer on the Specialty Training Programme in the following: 1 x ST3-ST6 at the ICR.
Eligibility Guidance
This post is for trainees who have completed a relevant higher degree that is PhD or MD (original research). You must have submitted your thesis by the time of application and been awarded your higher degree by the post start date. ST6 Applicants are only eligible to apply if they have a minimum of 12 calendar months to CCT completion at the start date of this post. Applicants who have less than 12 months to CCT completion are not eligible to apply.

Interview Process
- Document checking: Please have ready one form of Photo Identification for document checking.
- Length of interview: 30 minutes.
- Interview structure: A single station interview covering different criteria from the person specification.

Entry Grade
For ST3 entry, applicants must hold a current NTN in Clinical Oncology and must be ST3 at post start date or must have completed a separate standard clinical application to Clinical Oncology ST3 national recruitment (called Clinical Benchmarking) and have attended an assessment/interview for Clinical Oncology ST3 in 2026 and have been found appointable.

Please be aware that trainees are not permitted to repeat training for the purposes of taking up a CL post and trainees are not permitted to start at a grade that is not advertised.

Clinical Benchmarking
Applicants without a Deanery Reference Number (DRN) or National Training Number (NTN) in the GMC core/specialty training programme and level to which they are applying must have been found appointable at the core/speciality training interviews in the 2026 Recruitment Round 1/Round 2 (where applicable). If no national recruitment is available at the core/specialty training programme and level to which they are applying, applicants without a DRN/NTN are ineligible.

Job Details
The ICR is Europe’s leading cancer research centre and has been ranked the UK’s top academic research centre, based on the results of the Higher Education Funding Council’s Research Assessment Exercise. In 2025, the ICR/RMH was awarded The Queen Elizabeth Prize for Higher and Further Education to recognise the radiotherapy research programme, which has significantly improved patient treatment and delivered benefits to healthcare systems and economies in the UK and around the world.
The Division of Radiotherapy and Imaging has a special interest in the physical basis of radiotherapy, imaging related to radiotherapy and research in the combination of new therapies with radiation, as well as investigating the immune landscape of tumours treated with radiation. Additionally, the ICR has research teams investigating a wide range of topics. The clinical lecturer will be supported in identifying host laboratories to follow their interests. It is advised that applicants discuss their research interests with the programme director prior to interview in order to discuss research needs.
The major features of the programme are:
- Attachments of 6 months to enable trainees to develop site specialist skills being taught regularly by a variety of leaders in their field.
- It is based around the Academic Unit of Radiotherapy which is nationally/internationally recognised for its programme of radiotherapy based research.
- The unit consists of 7 Professors of Clinical Oncology, and 4 Clinician Scientists plus Royal Marsden consultants with honorary ICR faculty status.
- Extensive involvement in clinical trials (over 100 currently) means that trainees at Royal Marsden Hospital FT have considerable exposure to clinical research and trial methodology.
- For Clinical lecturers, this will be further enhanced by specific preparation for an academic career.
- Clinical lecturers will be encouraged to develop a wide range of generic skills including exposure to management and teaching activity.
